Mini implants have seen an evolutionary change in the phase of implant placement. The most common use for mini implant is the stabilization of over denture and orthodontic treatments, now they are used in pediatric dentistry for congenitally missing teeth and tooth loss due to trauma. Mini implants as a prosthetic replacement gives a psychological advantage to the child as it provides a feeling of his own teeth. A thirteen year old boy came to the department of pedodontics, KVG dental college, Sullia, with a chief complaint of spacing in the lower front tooth region since 4 years. On radiographic examination absence of 41, 31 were found. On model analysis, space deficiency was found in relation to the lower anterior and he was diagnosed with angle’s class I malocclusion with proclined maxxilary anterior teeth and congenitally missing lower central incisors. The patient’s main concern was on esthetics. Hence the patient was planned for a fixed provisional functional space maintainer using mini implant followed by crown prosthesis. The approach comes up with positive aesthetic and functional results that may reflect on self-esteem and social well-being of children and adolescents.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Tooth agenesis is often associated with other tooth anomalies, such as microdontia, delayed eruption and ectopic eruption. Moreover, they may be found all in the same individual, as certain genetic mutations may have a variable phenotypic expression. Treatment of cases of hypodontia of anterior teeth should not involve only opening or closing space for prosthetic rehabilitation. Individuals with hypodontia of permanent maxillary lateral incisors may have teeth with a mesiodistal width smaller than that of patients with a normal dentition, and which may need reshaping to achieve an esthetic and functional occlusion. Objective: This clinical case report discusses the association of hypodontia of permanent maxillary lateral incisors with other tooth anomalies and their treatment alternatives.

Extensive carious breakdown of primary anterior teeth to the cervical level and their loss in very young children invariably leads to lack of confidence and self-esteem and may cause psychological problems. The present paper deals with the management of three such cases by means of biological restorations, anterior fixed space maintainer and over-dentures.

The long-term use of complete maxillary dentures in the presence of natural residual anterior teeth may cause degenerative changes in the masticatory organ that are classified as signs of Kelly’s syndrome and pose a considerable reconstructive challenge. Failure to provide the patient with proper restorations aggravates destruction in the oral cavity, which is manifested as functional disorders and visible in the patient’s facial appearance. The aim of this paper is to present corrective procedures to be conducted before final prosthetic rehabilitation. The authors discuss the steps that need to be taken in the case of particular pathological symptoms linked with Kelly’s syndrome. The possibilities of prosthetic management with the use of conventional removable dentures and/or the application of intraosseous implants to optimize prosthetic treatment and prevent the destruction of the prosthetic base are also presented.

The gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is one of the main causes of dental erosion. The aim of this case presented is to describe the prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with GERD after 4 years of followup. A 33-year-old male patient complained about tooth sensitivity. The lingual surface of the maxillary anterior teeth and the cusps of the upper and lower posterior teeth presented wear. It was suspected that the feeling of heartburn reported by the patient associated with the intake of sports supplements (isotonics) was causing gastroesophageal changes. The patient was referred to a gastroenterologist and was diagnosed with GERD. Dental treatment was performed with metal-free crowns and porcelain veneers after medical treatment of the disease. With the change in eating habits, the treatment of GERD and lithium disilicate ceramics provided excellent cosmetic results after 4 years and the patient reported satisfaction with the treatment.
