Cornual pregnancy is a specific variety of ectopic gestation which occurs in the rudimentary horn of the uterus. It often rupture later than other tubal pregnancies because the myometrium is more distensible than the fallopian tube. Traditionally, the treatment is cornual resection (removal of rudimentary horn) or hysterectomy where the pedicle is short and the attachment is wide. Here, we report a case where cornual pregnancy was diagnosed at 17 weeks of gestation after uterine rupture and profound haemorrhage. The patient underwent laparotomy followed by cornual resection with salpingectomy. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/birdem.v4i1.18558 Birdem Med J 2014; 4(1): 50-51

Cesarean scar pregnancy is a rare variant of ectopic pregnancy where the fertilized ovum gets implanted in the myometrium of the previous cesarean scar. The incidence of CSP among ectopic pregnancies is 6.1% and it is seen in approximately 1 in 2000 normal pregnancies. As trophoblastic invasion of the myometrium can result in uterine rupture and catastrophic hemorrhage termination of pregnancy is the treatment of choice if diagnosed in the first trimester. Expectant treatment has a poor prognosis and may lead to uterine rupture which may require hysterectomy and subsequent loss of fertility. We present a case report of a 24year old femaleG2P1L1with ruptured cesarean scar pregnancy who underwent emergency laparotomy and subsequently hysterectomy. In this case report, we aim to discuss ruptured cesarean scar pregnancy as obstetric emergency and methods by which we can make an early diagnosis that can be managed appropriately as to prevent maternal morbidity and mortality.

An amniocele, or contained uterine rupture, is a phenomenon in which there is herniation of the amniotic sac through a uterine defect, secondary to various causes. It is associated with severe morbidity and mortality. This case presents the findings in a 36-year-old female at 29 weeks gestation who was initially managed as antepartum haemorrhage secondary to placenta previa, based on ultrasound. Upon further imaging, an amniocele was diagnosed. This case report illustrates the importance of early identification of this life-threatening condition.
