Abstract Objective: Pregnancy of Rudimentary Horn is a type of ectopic pregnancy, that is recognized almost always during surgical treatment of a rupture of the rudimentary horn. This is an obstetric case diagnosed preoperatively by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).Case: We report the case of a 19-years-old primigravida patient with rupture of rudimentary horn in 26th gestational week. The patient presented with sudden onset severe abdominal pain in the emergency room. Intraabdominal free fluid is detected. To evaluate the etiology of free fluid and location of the gestational sac, an abdominal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan was planned. The decision of emergent laparotomy is made because of sonographic detection of abdominal excessive -concentrated- free fluid, abdominal tenderness, and 2 points decrease of hemoglobin value in the control hemogram. A rudimentary horn pregnancy and fundal rupture of the rudimentary part of the uterus are diagnosed during the surgical procedure. A baby -live- weighing 450 grams was delivered. The ruptured rudimentary horn and same-sided tuba uterina were surgically removed. Conclusion: Rudimentary horn pregnancy is a rare ectopic pregnancy. Diagnosis is difficult clinically, even with diagnostic imaging modalities. Identifying both cornuas systematically in all patients increases the detection rate. The absence of continuity between the gestational sac’s lumen and the cervical canal on imaging is an important finding. Due to the serious maternal and fetal complications, its detection at an early week may be life-saving.

Background: Ectopic pregnancy is a life-threatening obstetric emergency, and is a major health problem for women of fertile age. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to estimate the prevalence, determinant factors, and outcomes of ectopic pregnancy among fertile age women in Ethiopia. Method: International databases (MEDLINE/Pub Med, Hinari, Scopus, Google scholar, African journals, and literatures were searched and nine eligible cross sectional and two case control studies were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Eggers test and funnel plot were computed to check publication bias across the studies. Publication bias was computed using a funnel plot and eggers test. Heterogeneity of the studies was checked using Cochrane Q-test and I2 statistic. Results: The pooled prevalence of ectopic pregnancy in Ethiopia was 3.61% (95%CI: 2.24–4.98, I2 = 89.2.0%, p < 0.001). Having cesarean section scar (AOR = 7.44, 95%CI: 5.48–10.09), single marital status (AOR = 5.71, 95%CI: 4.76–6.85), history of sexually transmitted infection (AOR = 4.68, 95%CI: 3.04–7.19), history of abortion (AOR = 3.89, 95%CI: 3.35–4.52), history of ectopic pregnancy (AOR = 5.74, 95%CI: 3.81–8.65), and emergency contraceptive use (AOR = 8.72, 95%CI: 2.90–26.20) were the determinant factors for the occurrence of ectopic pregnancy. Conclusion: This systematic review and meta-analysis showed that the prevalence of ectopic pregnancy was high in Ethiopia. Thus, educating women to limit the number of sexual partners, smoking cessation, using a condom during sex helps prevent sexually transmitted infections and the risk of pelvic inflammatory disease is crucial.

Abstract Background Ectopic pregnancy is one of the leading causes of pregnancy-related mortality; the treatment strategies associated with this condition entail complications, such as recurrence of ectopic pregnancy or infertility. The objective of this study was to evaluate the recurrence and fertility rate after salpingostomy in patients with tubal ectopic pregnancy. Methods This cross-sectional retrospective study was conducted at four referral centers of Obstetrics and Gynecology, under the supervision of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (Iran). The medical records of 125 patients with tubal pregnancy were reviewed. These patients underwent laparoscopic salpingostomy from April 2009 to March 2016.Data on maternal age, BMI, history of previous EP, genital tract infection, IUD insertion, history of previous surgery, and infertility were further obtained. The patients were followed up for approximately 1 to 7 years. The recurrence of EP and subsequent pregnancy rate were assessed during the follow-up period. Results There was no statistically significant relationship between post-salpingostomy recurrence and maternal age, previous abdominopelvic surgery, and history of infertility(P = .425); however, the post-salpingostomy recurrence of EP was correlated with BMI (P = 0.001), previous history of EP (P = 0.001), genital tract infection (P = 0.001), and IUD insertion (P = 003). Among 95 women who had no contraception, pregnancy occurred in 51 cases (53.6%) and recurrence of EP was observed in 16 patients (12.8%). Conclusions Our results suggest that salpingostomy is a safe method with a low risk of recurrence and good fertility outcomes for women who consider future pregnancy.
