Smart home control system can be integrated into an existing home appliances to reduce the need for human intervention, increase security and energy efficiency. However, it is still an open problem due to difficulties such as network distance, signal interference, not user friendly, increased cost and power consumption. This paper reviews various topics on smart home technologies including control system, smart home network, smart home appliance and sensor technologies for smart home. In this research, the proposed prototype of home automation allows users to remotely switch on or off any household appliance based on Internet of Things (IoT) with the enhancement of solar charger. The smartphone and/or tablet replaces the manual use of personal computer without the need for high additional cost. This prototype uses four types of sensors i.e. PIR sensor, temperature sensor, ultrasonic sensor and smoke gas sensor for automatic environmental control and intrusion detection.

The application of embedded speech recognition technology in the smart home is researched, combining of the Internet of Things, the voice control system for smart home has been designed. The core processor chooses the high-performance Cortex-M4 MCU STM32F407VGT6 produced by STMicroelectronics. The system contains a hardware unit based on LD3320 for speaker-independent speech recognition. RF wireless communication uses ultra-low power chip CC1101 and GSM employ SIM900A. Real-time operating system FreeRTOS is used for multitask scheduling and the operation of household devices. The practical application verifies that this voice control system practicably can identify voice commands quickly and accurately, complete the control actions primely, has a wide application prospect.

In the normal Smart home system, the hardware interface and the communication agreement were different from each other, so they cannot be used with a unified interface because the traditional home node was self-designed. An intelligent home control system based on cloud computing was proposed to solve this problem, the redundant processing ability of cloud computing was used, data storage and data analysis capabilities were used, data was collected by wireless ZigBee and transported to the cloud, a variety of protocols, interface and data processing were finished with cloud computing. The problem of disunion interface was solved with cloud computing.

A remote control system for smart home is designed based on Z-wave, which is divided into two components: controller and receiver. In the controller design, the key signals are scanned by SCM P89LPC9408 to generate and transmit different control commands to Z-wave module, and then the relative commands are packed by Z-wave protocol and transmitted from a wireless network, LCD module is used to display the relative information such as time and temperature. In the receiver design, the Z-wave signal is received by receive module, and the transmission commands are demodulated and transmitted to SCM P89LPC938 to realize the relative functions. The results show that this system has a certain application value for smart home design.
