Weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) methods are especially efficient for numerically solving nonlinear hyperbolic equations. In order to achieve strong stability and large time-steps, strong stability preserving (SSP) integrating factor (IF) methods were designed in the literature, but the methods there were only for one-dimensional (1D) problems that have a stiff linear component and a non-stiff nonlinear component. In this paper, we extend WENO methods with large time-stepping SSP integrating factor Runge–Kutta time discretization to solve general nonlinear two-dimensional (2D) problems by a splitting method. How to evaluate the matrix exponential operator efficiently is a tremendous challenge when we apply IF temporal discretization for PDEs on high spatial dimensions. In this work, the matrix exponential computation is approximated through the Krylov subspace projection method. Numerical examples are shown to demonstrate the accuracy and large time-step size of the present method.

Στην παρούσα διατριβή, μελετάται η ανάπτυξη αριθμητικών μεθόδων υψηλής τάξης για την επίλυση γενικότερων μη γραμμικών Διαφορικών Εξισώσεων για προβλήματα σε Πολλαπλά Πεδία στις 1+1 και στις 2+1 διαστάσεις. Αρχικά, αναπτύσσεται μία οικογένεια γενικευμένων μη γραμμικών Προβλημάτων Αρχικών και Συνοριακών Συνθηκών Πολλαπλών Πεδίων (ΠΑΣΣ-ΠΠ) για προβλήματα στις 1+1 και στις 2+1 διαστάσεις. Το μοντέλο διάχυσης καρκινικού όγκου στον εγκέφαλο αποτελεί μια ειδική περίπτωση εξίσωσης πολλαπλών πεδίων, η οποία ανήκει στην παραπάνω οικογένεια ΠΑΣΣ-ΠΠ. Στην παρούσα διατριβή, ερευνώνται δύο μοντέλα διάχυσης γλοιώματος στον εγκέφαλο, τα οποία προσεγγίζουν την εξέλιξη και τη διήθηση των καρκινικών κυττάρων στη Φαιά και τη Λευκή ουσία του εγκεφάλου, σε συνδυασμό με την εφαρμογή σύγχρονων θεραπευτικών σχημάτων ακτινοθεραπείας-χημειοθεραπείας. Παράλληλα με την ιατρική εφαρμογή των ΠΑΣΣ-ΠΠ, αναπτύσσονται τα γενικευμένα μη γραμμικά μοντέλα βιολογικής εισβολής Fisher και Kolmogorov-Piskunov-Petrovskii σε ομοιογενές περιβάλλον, καθώς και μια γενικευμένη Burgers-Huxley για προβλήματα με ανομοιογενές περιβάλλον. Για την αριθμητική επίλυση των παραπάνω ΠΑΣΣ-ΠΠ, αναπτύσσεται η μέθοδος derivative Discontinuous Hermite Collocation (dDHC) καθώς και δύο Υβριδικές μέθοδοι Collocation με συνεχή κυβικά πολυώνυμα Hermite. Για την ανάπτυξη της dDHC εισάγονται τα νέα πολυώνυμα Hermite με τμηματικά συνεχή πρώτη παράγωγο, τα οποία παράγουν προσεγγίσεις τέταρτης τάξης σε κάθε υπο-χωρίο καθώς και στα σημεία διεπαφής. Για την ανάπτυξη της πρώτης Υβριδικής μεθόδου Collocation, χρησιμοποιήθηκε ένας κυβικός συνεχής συντελεστής διάχυσης ώστε να προσεγγισθεί η ασυνέχεια του συντελεστή διάχυσης μεταξύ των διαφορετικών περιοχών, ενώ στη δεύτερη Υβριδική μέθοδο, συνδυάστηκε η Hermite Collocation με το σχήμα χαλάρωσης διεπαφών Two Step Ave Relaxation. Και οι δύο Υβριδικές μέθοδοι Collocation προσεγγίζουν με υψηλή ακρίβεια τη λύση της dDHC ενώ η Υβριδική μέθοδος με τον κυβικό συντελεστή επεκτάθηκε και σε προβλήματα 2+1 διαστάσεων με πολυπλοκότερη γεωμετρία. Για τη χρονική διακριτοποίηση μελετήθηκε ο συνδυασμός των παραπάνω μεθόδων Collocation με χρονικά σχήματα Diagonally Implicit, Strong Stability Preserving και Implicit Explicit Runge-Kutta υψηλής τάξης. Η ευστάθεια και η συμπεριφορά των μεθόδων επαληθεύτηκαν έπειτα από αρκετά αριθμητικά πειράματα.

In this paper, a novel high-order method, Runge-Kutta Sinc (RK-Sinc), is proposed. The RK-Sinc scheme employs the strong stability preserving Runge-Kutta (SSP-RK) algorithm to substitute time derivative and the Sinc function to replace spatial derivates. The computational efficiency, numerical dispersion and convergence of the RK-Sinc algorithm are addressed. The proposed method presents the better numerical dispersion and the faster convergence rate both in time and space domain. It is found that the computational memory of the RK-Sinc is more than two times of the FDTD for the same stencil size. Compared with the conventional FDTD, the new scheme provides more accuracy and great potential in computational electromagnetic field.
