Abstract We apply the recently proposed RMF(BCS)* ansatz to study the charge radii of the potassium isotopic chain up to $^{52}$K. It is shown that the experimental data can be reproduced rather well, qualitatively similar to the Fayans nuclear density functional theory, but with a slightly better description of the odd-even staggerings (OES). Nonetheless, both methods fail for $^{50}$K and to a lesser extent for $^{48,52}$K. It is shown that if these nuclei are deformed with a $\beta_{20}\approx-0.2$, then one can obtain results consistent with experiments for both charge radii and spin-parities. We argue that beyond mean field studies are needed to properly describe the charge radii of these three nuclei, particularly for $^{50}$K.

Abstract The main aim of the present paper is to study extensively the γ-rigid Bohr Hamiltonian with anharmonic sextic oscillator potential for the variable β and γ = 0. For the corresponding spectral problem, a finite number of eigenvalues are found explicitly, by algebraic means, so-called Quasi-Exact Solvability (QES). The evolution of the spectral and electromagnetic properties by considering higher exact solvability orders is investigated, especially the approximate degeneracy of the ground and first two β bands in the critical point of the shape phase transition from a harmonic to an anharmonic prolate β-soft, also the shape evolution within an isotopic chain. Numerical results are given for 39 nuclei, namely, 98-108Ru, 100-102Mo, 116-130Xe, 180-196Pt, 172Os, 146-150Nd, 132-134Ce, 152-154Gd, 154-156Dy, 150-152Sm, 190Hg and 222Ra. Across this study, it seems that the higher quasi-exact solvability order improves our results by decreasing the rms, mostly for deformed nuclei. The nuclei 100,104Ru, 118,120,126,128Xe, 148Nd and 172Os fall exactly in the critical point.

The evolution of the deformation across the Y isotopic chain, in the vicinity of N = 60 boundary, has been studied using gamma spectroscopy methods. The nuclei of interest have been produced by neutron induced fission of 235U and 241Pu targets, during two experimental campaigns named EXILL and FIPPS at the Institute Laue-Langevin in Grenoble. The emitted gamma rays have been collected by HPGe and LaBr3 detectors providing the identification of the high-spin levels in the 94Y and 96Y isotopes up to 6 MeV excitation energy, as well as information about the half-lives of the in-band states in the 98Y nucleus. The obtained results shed new light on the onset of deformation in the neutron-rich Y isotopes and, in general, in the A ≈ 100 region.

The mercury isotopic chain is depicted as one of the best fields to observe many phenomena related to collectivity evolution as, for instance, shape transition, shape coexistence or shape staggering. In this context, the 189Hg presents several interesting aspects and is still relatively unexplored. The nucleus has been studied at the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro using a fusion-evaporation reaction and the γ rays emitted have been detected by the GALILEO array, coupled with Neutron Wall and the GALILEO plunger. The presorting and the preliminary results are presented.

In this work, the ground state properties of the platinum isotopic chain, [Formula: see text]Pt are studied within the covariant density functional theory. The calculations are carried out for a large number of even–even Pt isotopes by using the density-dependent point-coupling and the density-dependent meson-exchange effective interactions. All ground state properties such as the binding energy, separation energy, two-neutron shell gap, root mean square (rms)-radii for neutrons and protons and quadrupole deformation are discussed and compared with available experimental data, and with the predictions of some nuclear models such as the Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) model with NL3 functional and the Hartree–Fock–Bogoliubov (HFB) method with SLy4 Skyrme force. The shape phase transition for Pt isotopic chain is also studied. Its corresponding total energy curves as well as the potential energy surfaces confirm the transition from prolate to oblate shapes at [Formula: see text]Pt contrary to some studies predictions and in agreement with others. Overall, a good agreement is found between the calculated and experimental results wherever available.

A systematic study of the magnetic properties of deformed odd-neutron 137–145Ce isotopes using the microscopic quasiparticle phonon nuclear model (QPNM) has been presented. The QPNM includes residual spin–spin interaction in both isoscalar and isovector channels. The analysis shows that in the isoscalar channel contributions to the magnetic moment coming from the neutron and proton systems practically cancel out each other. On the other hand, in the isovector channel, the coherent contribution coming from the quasiparticle–phonon interactions leads to a spin polarization (core polarization), which is important for determination of the quenched spin gyromagnetic factors (gs). The quenched spin gyromagnetic factors so called [Formula: see text] have been found to range from [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text] in the odd-mass 137–145Ce isotopic chain, which is similar to its phenomenological value ([Formula: see text] between [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]). By taking into consideration the core polarization effects, the available experimental data are satisfactorily reproduced with an accuracy of 0.01μN–0.1μN.
