A brief introduction to acronyms is given and motivation for extracting them in a digital library environment is discussed. A technique for extracting acronyms is given with an analysis of the results. The technique is found to have a low number of false negatives and a high number of false positives. Introduction Digital library research seeks to build tools to enable access of content, while making as few as possible assumptions about the content, since assumptions limit the range of applicability of the tools. Generally, the broader the assumptions the more widely applicable the tools. For example, keyword based indexing [5] is based on communications theory and applies to all natural human textual languages (allowances for differences in character sets and similar localisation issues not withstanding) . The paper reports on a study of the ways in which Canadian digital library collections make use of knowledge organization systems to support users’ information search behaviour. The study identified 33 digital collections which have employed some type of knowledge organization system in their search interfaces.Cet article présente les résultats d’une étude sur la manière dont les systèmes d’organisation des connaissances sont utilisés par les collections des bibliothèques numériques canadiennes, afin d’assister le comportement de recherche informationnelle des utilisateurs. Cette étude a identifiée 33 collections numériques qui ont employé certains types de systèmes d’organisation des connaissances dans leurs interfaces de recherche.

Salah satu indikasi ketertinggalan lembaga pendidikan tinggi islam swasta adalah minimnya pelayanan dan sarana prasarana yang memadai baik dari tata kelola administrasinya maupun dalam proses pembelajarannya. Situasi seperti ini jika dibiarkan akan memperburuk citra lembaga pendidikan tinggi itu sendiri dan lambat laun akan ditinggalkan. Adanya pemamfaatan teknologi pendidikan seperti pembuatan sistem informasi akademik, e-learning, digital library, e-mail, website dan pengadaan serta pemberdayaan sumber daya manusia yang menguasai teknologi bukan tidak mungkin lembaga pendidikan islam swasta menjadi lembaga pendidikan yang berkualitas dan berdaya saing.
