The headwaters of the Javorná River is situated in the northern part of the Jeseníky Landscape Protected Area (N Moravia), north of the Rejvíz National Nature Reserve. A population of the endemic Vestia ranojevici moravica was found in this locality in 1968, cca 70 km far from its known distribution range in the N Moravia. During the recent inventory of this site 48 mollusc species were found including four rare dendrophilous clausilids: Bulgarica cana, Vestia ranojevici moravica, Cochlodina orthostoma and Clausilia cruciata. The beech and scree forests of this locality represent the most preserved malacological site in the Hrubý Jeseník Mts which should be strongly protected.

This paper brings the first malacological research of the proposal nature reserve Vrchlice Valley (Central Bohemia, Czech Republic) after hundred years. Altogether, 44 mollusc species have been recorded in a very diverse mosaic of floodplain forests, cliffs and meadows. Rare or locally important species Vertigo pusilla, Semilimax semilimax, Daudebardia rufa, Isognomostoma isognomostomos, Oxyloma elegans, Vitrea crystallina and Laciniaria plicata were recorded in the area of the reserve.

Results of beetles (Coleoptera) survey of Zástudánčí National Nature Reserve (Central Moravia) 2008 - part 1 During the beetles survey of Zástudánčí National Nature Reserve (Central Moravia), 3585 specimens belonging to 857 species from 64 families were recorded. Faunistic data of 23 of them (Haliplidae, Dytiscidae, Carabidae, Hydrophilidae, Histeridae, Hydraenidae, Ptiliidae, Leiodidae, Scydmaenidae, Silphidae, Staphylinidae, Lucanidae, Geotrupidae, Scarabaeidae, Buprestidae, Cerophytidae, Eucnemidae, Throscidae, Elateridae, Drilidae, Lycidae, Lampyridae, and Cantharidae) are presented. Presenting data represent 2191 specimens belonging to 456 species. Critically endangered species (according to Red list of theatened species in the Czech Republic - Invertebrates) Negastrius pulchellus and N. sabulicola (Elateridae) and Cerophytum elateroides (Cerophytidae) were recorded.

The Soos National Nature Reserve nearby Františkovy Lázně Town (Western Bohemia, Czech Republic) is a spectacular peatbog site with the occurrence of fens on numerous mineral spring effluents, emanations of pure carbon dioxide in mofettes (i.e. false mud volcanoes), parts with saltwater wetlands, and diatomite mantel in its central part. These natural conditions affect general character of all habitats, vegetation and malacocoenoses in the reserve. Altogether, 31 mollusc species were found there, but only two of them are considered as near threatened (Pisidium obtusale and Vertigo substriata). The majority of recorded assemblage was composed of common and generalist mollusc species.

Spiders of Polanská niva National Nature Reserve were investigated during 2013. Several capture methods were used from March to September. Altogether, 85 species from 14 families were recorded. The most interesting species are Arctosa maculata (Hahn, 1822) and Micaria nivosa L. Koch, 1866 (both are vunerable according to the Red List of threatened species in the Czech Republic). The other remarkable species were: Kaestneria pullata (O. P.- Cambridge, 1863), Donacochara speciosa (Thorell, 1875), Hylyphantes graminilola (Sundevall, 1830), Singa nitidula C. L. Koch, 1844 and Trochosa spinipalpis F. O. P.- Cambridge. Evaluation of spider community shows, that 8.2 % spider species prefer naturally like habitats.

Abstract This paper presents first materials on the fauna and distribution of the terrestrial isopods - woodlice (Oniscidea) inhabiting the central and southern parts of Kostanay Region (Kazakhstan, Northern and Southern Turgai), located in the steppe zone. Most of the specimens of woodlice were collected in the territory of the National Nature Reserve “Altyn Dala”, a new protected area (established in 2012) and in the area of the Naurzum National Nature Reserve (established in 1931, World Heritage Site of UNESCO), on the Stipa lessingiana dry steppe. The list of woodlice includes six species (Crustacea: Isopoda: Oniscidea), belonging to five genera and three families in the study area. Four species are recorded for the first time in Kazakhstan - Desertoniscus subterraneus Verhoeff, 1930, Parcylisticus dentifrons (Budde-Lund 1885), Porcellio scaber Latreille, 1804, and Protracheoniscus major (Dollfus 1903). Distribution characteristics are provided for all of those species recorded in the study area. For the territory of Kazakhstan, according to a literature data, currently 16 species of terrestrial isopods have been recorded.

AbstractIn 1990 the population of the red-necked ostrich Struthio camelus camelus in the Aïr and Ténéré National Nature Reserve, Niger, was estimated at c. 1600 individuals. During a 14-day survey carried out in the protected area in October and November 2000 no evidence of recent occurrence of ostriches was found, and it appears that the population size has dramatically declined in its favoured habitat. The species seems to have been severely persecuted during the civil war of 1991–1997. Although a small population had remained in the protected area after the conflict, the occurrence of further poaching suggests that remaining individuals are threatened with extirpation.

The paper summarises main ideas concerning the structure of natural forest ecosystems at middle altitudes and documents the changes of humus forms and their chemistry in the natural forest of Žákova hora National Nature Reserve, in typical selected parts with different tree species composition: European beech – Norway spruce. The species composition, age and spatial structure are discussed and analysis of the uppermost soil layer is done in particular parts of the natural forest regeneration cycle, of different stages respectively. We compared the amount and layer composition of surface humus and basic pedochemical characteristics of holorganic and upper mineral horizons. The results document changes in the character of humus forms as a consequence of the tree species change. On the contrary, a high portion of uncertainty as for the species, age and spatial structure follows from discussion about the structure of natural forests at middle altitudes.

The paper deals with historical development of floodplain forests in the area of Vrapač National Nature Reserve in the floodplain of the Morava River (Protected Landscape Area Litovelské Pomoraví, Czech Republic). The aim of this paper is to contribute to a better understanding of the anthropogenic influences that have over centuries led to the present state of floodplain forests in the study area. Thus, it will be possible to define more efficiently the management plan of this floodplain forest ecosystem.
