On Carlos Moya's Reply to the Argument from Luck Resumen: Esta nota crítica se centra en el argumento de Carlos Moya (2017, 168-70) a favor de la conclusión de que el Argumento de la Suerte representa en realidad un problema mayor para los compatibilistas que para los libertaristas. La Sección 1 introduce brevemente el Argumento de la Suerte. La Sección 2 discute la distinción de Moya entre dos concepciones de deliberación práctica, y propone una manera alternativa a la de Moya de entender la crítica al libertarismo que se basa en la condición de que cualquier decisión libre debe tener una explicación contrastiva. Finalmente, la Sección 3 resume la respuesta libertarista de Moya al Argumento de la Suerte, y sugiere un modelo alternativo de determinismo que Moya podría considerar para completar su argumento. Abstract: This review focuses on Carlos Moya’s (2017, 168-70) argument for the conclusion that the Argument from Luck actually represents a greater problem for compatibilism than for libertarianism. Section 1 briefly introduces the Argument from Luck. Section 2 discusses Moya’s distinction between two conceptions of practical deliberation, and suggests a justification that Moya does not consider for the condition that any free decision must have a contrastive explanation. Finally, Section 3 summarizes Moya’s libertarian response to the Argument from Luck, and suggests an alternative model of determinism that Moya might consider to complete his argument. Solemos asociar la obra de Martín Lutero con la Reforma Protestante, y esta, a su vez, con el inicio de la modernidad europea. Aunque existen distintos elementos que permiten el tránsito entre un fenómeno y otro, la relación no deja de ser problemática. El interés fundamental de Lutero es el problema de la salvación, que implica, para él, una crítica a la noción tradicional de libre albedrío. Se pretende mostrar las características del cambio teológico introducido por Lutero, y la estrecha relación de su obra con su personalidad. La modernidad, que se pretende secular, debe mucho a esa discusión religiosa. Although there are different elements that allow the transit between one phenomenon and another, the relationship is still problematic. Luther's fundamental interest is the problem of salvation, which implies, for him, a critique of the traditional notion of free will. It is intended to show the characteristics of the theological change introduced by Luther, and the close relationship of his work with his personality. Modernity, which is meant to be secular, owes much to this religious discussion. O interesse fundamental de Lutero é a salvação, que implica uma crítica à noção tradicional de libre arbítrio. Este artigo pretende mostrar as características da mudança teológica introduzida por Lutero, mesmo como a relação estreita da obra e a personalidade dele. Anthropomorphization is the tendency to ascribe humanlike features and mental states, such as free will and consciousness, to nonhuman beings or inanimate agents. Two studies investigated the consequences of the anthropomorphization of nature on people’s willingness to help victims of natural disasters. Study 1 (N = 96) showed that the humanization of nature correlated negatively with willingness to help natural disaster victims. Study 2 (N = 52) tested for causality, showing that the anthropomorphization of nature reduced participants’ intentions to help the victims. Overall, our findings suggest that humanizing nature undermines the tendency to support victims of natural disasters.
