This paper presents the experimental investigation on flexural characteristic of slab panels with embedded cold-formed steel frame as reinforcement. Perforated cold-formed steel channel sections are formed into steel frames as replacement to the conventional reinforcement bars inside precast concrete slab panels. A series of six experimental specimens for precast slab panels were tested. The specimens with 3 configurations namely control sample (CS) with conventional reinforcement bars, single horizontal C-channel section (SH) and double horizontal C-channel sections (DH) formed into rectangular hollow section. Results show that the tested slab specimens failed at the flexural crack at mid-span, under loading point and shear at the support. Tearing of shear connector in the cold-formed steel section was found to be the main factor for the structural failure. SH specimens achieved the highest ultimate load capacity, with average value of 138.5 kN, followed by DH specimens, 116.5 kN, and the control samples, 59.0 kN. The results showed that the proposed reinforced slab panel with embedded cold-formed steel frame was more effective compared to conventional reinforced slab.

A research of new connection method due to axially static loading on the cold-formed steel in civil engineering structures has been investigated. Joint failure was modeled with a cohesive zone model (CZM) approach where the governing parameters were determined from fracture mechanics test specimens. The incremental in capacity strength of cold-formed steel single lap joints (SLJs) was successfully predicted. Video microscope records carried out on the failure surface of the joints in experimental works. The modeling results have a good correlation with the experimental works. Strength capacity deviation of experimentation to FEM are 21.93%, 18.5%, 36.3%, 12.47% and 4.03% for srew, epoxy resi adhesive, polyester resin adhesive, combination screw with epoxy resin and combination screw with polyester resin connections.

A series of researches on the behaviour of a new structural system, composite timber wall panel with cold-formed steel frames, are investigated under monotonic and reversed cyclic loading. In order to improve the in-plane lateral performance of the composite timber panels, sixteen different optimized composite timber panels were proposed and tested, including increasing the thickness of the sheathings, improvement with steel X-bracings, filling with straw and advance of connection between sheathing and wood framing. The main objective of the investigation is to explore the pervasive mode of failure, determine the quantification of the improvement in lateral performance of these optimized composite timber wall panels and evaluate the benefits of each optimization during the process of failure.
