Nowadays, due to the rapid development and wide deployment of handheld mobile devices, the mobile users begin to save their resources, access services, and run applications that are stored, deployed, and implemented in cloud computing which has huge storage space and massive computing capability with their mobile devices. However, the wireless channel is insecure and vulnerable to various attacks that pose a great threat to the transmission of sensitive data. Thus, the security mechanism of how the mobile devices and remote cloud server authenticate each other to create a secure session in mobile cloud computing environment has aroused the interest of researchers. In this paper, we propose an efficient and provably secure anonymous two-factor user authentication protocol for the mobile cloud computing environment. The proposed scheme not only provides mutual authentication between mobile devices and cloud computing but also fulfills the known security evaluation criteria. Moreover, utilization of ECC in our scheme reduces the computing cost for mobile devices that are computation capability limited and battery energy limited. In addition, the formal security proof is given to show that the proposed scheme is secure under random oracle model. Security analysis and performance comparisons indicate that the proposed scheme has reasonable computation cost and communication overhead at the mobile client side as well as the server side and is more efficient and more secure than the related competitive works.

With the popularity of cloud computing, information security issues in the cloud environment are becoming more and more prominent. As the first line of defense to ensure cloud computing security, user authentication has attracted extensive attention. Though considerable efforts have been paid for a secure and practical authentication scheme in cloud computing environment, most attempts ended in failure. The design of a secure and efficient user authentication scheme for cloud computing remains a challenge on the one hand and user’s smart card or mobile devices are of limited resource; on the other hand, with the combination of cloud computing and the Internet of Things, applications in cloud environments often need to meet various security requirements and are vulnerable to more attacks. In 2018, Amin et al. proposed an enhanced user authentication scheme in cloud computing, hoping to overcome the identified security flaws of two previous schemes. However, after a scrutinization of their scheme, we revealed that it still suffers from the same attacks (such as no user anonymity, no forward secrecy, and being vulnerable to offline dictionary attack) as the two schemes they compromised. Consequently, we take the scheme of Amin et al. (2018) as a study case, we discussed the inherent reason and the corresponding solutions to authentication schemes for cloud computing environment in detail. Next, we not only proposed an enhanced secure and efficient scheme, but also explained the design rationales for a secure cloud environment protocol. Finally, we applied BAN logic and heuristic analysis to show the security of the protocol and compared our scheme with related schemes. The results manifest the superiority of our scheme.

Internet based applications and data storage services can be easily acquired by the end users by the permission of Cloud computing. Providing security to the cloud computing environment has become important issue with the increased demand of cloud computing. Other than the traditional security methods, additional methods like control access, confidentiality, firewalls and user authentication are required in order to provide security to the cloud computing environment. One of the needful components in terms of cloud security is Intrusion Detection System (IDS). To detect various attacks on cloud, Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is the most commonly used mechanism. This paper discusses about the intrusion detection and different intrusion detection techniques namely anomaly based techniques and signature based techniques.
