A field experiment was carried out at Research farm, Department of Horticulture, School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development, Nagaland University, Medziphema campus, Nagaland during 2018-2019 to evaluate the effect of integrated nutrient management on growth, yield, quality and economics of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L) under foothill condition of Nagaland. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with eleven treatments and three replications. Results revealed that the application of different levels of fertilizes, organic manures and biofertilizers either alone or in combination significantly increased the growth, yield and quality of French bean as compared to control. Application of 50% NPK as inorganics + 50% vermicompost exhibited maximum plant height (34.3 cm), branches plant-1 (9.4), leaves plant-1 (27.3), pods plant-1 (26.3), length of pod (14.9 cm), width of pod (1.04 cm), seeds pod-1 (7.1), fresh weight of pod (7.1 g), pod yield (246.99 q ha-1) and crude protein content (28.8%). There was a significant build up of organic carbon and available nutrients except available nitrogen in post harvest soil with INM practices and maximum values of organic carbon (16.8g kg-1), available P (26.8 kg ha-1) and available K (126.8 kg ha-1) were recorded with 50% NPK as inorganics + 50% vermicompost. While maximum value of available nitrogen (297.6 kg ha-1) in post harvest soil was recorded with 100% NPK as inorganics. The highest net return of Rs 3, 45,388 ha-1along with cost benefit ratio of 3.04 was recorded in the treatment having50% NPK as inorganics + 50% FYM.

Eleven genotypes of french bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were screened to select a suitable one which could provide optimum yield of fresh pod, dry seed and biochemical parameters. The maximum seed yield in french bean was found in case of genotype BB-9 (2.96 t/ha) and BARI bush bean -1 (2.95 t/ha), while that of minimum was found in BB-11(1.64 t/ha). However, maximum fresh pod yield (14.25 t/ha) was found for BARI bush bean -1, followed by BARI bush bean -2 (13.23t/ha). BARI bush bean -1 required the minimum time of 88.33 days while BB-3 the maximum of 110.00 days to attain 90% pods maturity. The highest number of diseased plants were observed in BB- 5 (30.33%) and the lowest were in BARI bush bean -1 (7.33%). No significant difference (P< 0.05) in maximum protein content among the studied genotypes was observed, for example BB-15 (21.60%) and BARI bush bean -1 (21.57%). Maximum crude fiber (5.53%) was obtained from BARI bush bean -1, followed by BB-6 (5.50%), BB-20 (5.50%) and BB-5 (5.47%), which all were statistically similar. Background: French bean is the most important and widely cultivated legume. This research is aimed to evaluate the integrated approach of nutrient management (INM) for higher productivity of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in calcareous soil of Bihar, India.Methods: The study was conducted during 2017-18 and 2018-19 on French bean (var. Arka Suvidha) with eight treatments viz T1 (100% NPK through inorganic source), T2 (75% NPK through inorganic + 25% N through FYM), T3 (75% NPK through inorganic + 25% N through Vermicompost), T4 (50% NPK through inorganic + 50% N through FYM), T5 (50% NPK through inorganic + 50% N through Vermicompost), T6 (25% NPK through inorganic + 75% N through FYM), T7 (25% NPK through inorganic + 75% N through Vermicompost), besides an absolute control i.e., T8 (no organic, inorganic applied). The benefit cost ratio was also calculated for comparison of the practical feasibility of various treatment level. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications. Result: The experimental data on growth and yield attributes were analyzed using analysis of variance technique. The treatment level III i.e. 75% NPK through inorganic + 25% N through Vermicompost) exhibited the highest yield (95.61 q /ha.) and benefit-cost ratio (2.16).
