This paper aims to investigate the existence of periodic solutions for $p$ -Laplacian differential equations with jumping nonlinearity under the frame of half-eigenvalue. Based on the continuity theorem, some new results are obtained, which enrich and generalize the previous results.

AbstractWe prove existence of solutions and its properties for a one-dimensional stochastic partial differential equations with fractional Laplacian and non-Lipschitz coefficients. The method of proof is eatablished by Kolmogorov’s continuity theorem and tightness arguments.

Abstract We study some fundamental properties of real rectifiable currents and give a generalization of King’s theorem to characterize currents defined by positive real holomorphic chains. Our main tool is Siu’s semi-continuity theorem and our proof largely simplifies King’s proof. A consequence of this result is a sufficient condition for the Hodge conjecture.

AbstractThe history of uniform convergence is typically focused on the contributions of Cauchy, Seidel, Stokes, and Björling. While the mathematical contributions of these individuals to the concept of uniform convergence have been much discussed, Weierstrass is considered to be the actual inventor of today’s concept. This view is often based on his well-known article from 1841. However, Weierstrass’s works on a rigorous foundation of analytic and elliptic functions date primarily from his lecture courses at the University of Berlin up to the mid-1880s. For the history of uniform convergence, these lectures open up an independent branch of development that is disconnected from the approaches of the previously mentioned authors; to my knowledge, Weierstraß never explicitly referred to Cauchy’s continuity theorem (1821 or 1853) or to Seidel’s or Stokes’s contributions (1847). In the present article, Weierstrass’s contributions to the development of uniform convergence will be discussed, mainly based on lecture notes made by Weierstrass’s students between 1861 and the mid-1880s. The emphasis is on the notation and the mathematical rigor of the introductions to the concept, leading to the proposal to re-date the famous 1841 article and thus Weierstrass’s first introduction of uniform convergence.

The chapter features, first, a critical presentation of Brouwer’s intuitionistic doctrines concerning logic, the real numbers, and continuity in the real number system, including his Principle for Numbers and Continuity Theorem. This is followed by a parallel examination of Hermann Weyl’s quasi-intuitionistic views on logic, continuity, and the real number system, views inspired by (but grossly misrepresenting) ideas of Brouwer. The whole business wraps up with an attempt to place Brouwer’s and Weyl’s efforts within the trajectory of informed thinking, during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, on the subjects of continua, magnitudes, and quantities.

In this paper, we prove the semi-continuity theorem of Diederich–Fornaess index and Steinness index under a smooth deformation of pseudoconvex domains in Stein manifolds.

Abstract We show that the Hodge numbers of Sasakian manifolds are invariant under arbitrary deformations of the Sasakian structure. We also present an upper semi-continuity theorem for the dimensions of kernels of a smooth family of transversely elliptic operators on manifolds with homologically orientable transversely Riemannian foliations. We use this to prove that the $$\partial {\bar{\partial }}$$ ∂ ∂ ¯ -lemma and being transversely Kähler are rigid properties under small deformations of the transversely holomorphic structure which preserve the foliation. We study an example which shows that this is not the case for arbitrary deformations of the transversely holomorphic foliation. Finally we point out an application of the upper-semi continuity theorem to K-contact manifolds.

AbstractI survey Brouwer’s weak counterexamples to classical theorems, with a view to discovering (i) what useful mathematical work is done by weak counterexamples; (ii) whether they are rigorous mathematical proofs or just plausibility arguments; (iii) the role of Brouwer’s notion of the creative subject in them, and whether the creative subject is really necessary for them; (iv) what axioms for the creative subject are needed; (v) what relation there is between these arguments and Brouwer’s theory of choice sequences. I refute one of Brouwer’s claims with a weak counterexample of my own. I also examine Brouwer’s 1927 proof of the negative continuity theorem, which appears to be a weak counterexample reliant on both the creative subject and the concept of choice sequence; I argue that it provides a good justification for the weak continuity principle, but it is not a weak counterexample and it does not depend essentially on the creative subject.
