We, the guest editors, have come to the topic of queer and trans experiences of sexual violence from different paths even though we started our careers in Psychology at the same institution (Rock Chalk Jayhawk, Go KU!). Dr. Anderson is, first and foremost, a violence researcher, and Flanders a queer and trans health researcher. However, we have come together to collaborate in the last few years in recognition of how little scholars in the fields of violence research (frequently named violence against women) and sexual and gender minority (SGM) health research collaborate despite the many intersections and overlapping work of the fields. These fields have a great deal in common - both are invested in improving the lives of people who are marginalized. Yet, we saw a need to foster greater space and dialogue for violence researchers and SGM health researchers in psychology and related disciplines regarding the stark sexual violence disparities SGM people experience. We see this special issue as constituting a way in which this dialogue can be continued, as well as serving as an important resource on SGM sexual violence for both researchers and clinicians.

Abstract In this paper we reflect on the contribution, style and legacy of Professor Val Curtis, an important, and sometimes controversial, figure in the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector who sadly passed away on October 19, 2020. Across numerous scientific articles, and several books, and operational programmes, she established herself as a world-renowned scientific expert in the field of hygiene and behaviour change, as well as a major thought-leader in the WASH sector. We identify four major scientific contributions which she made over three decades of research that spanned multiple fields, including engineering, epidemiology, and psychology. Beyond her research, she tirelessly championed hygiene as a public health priority, using her talents as a communicator to secure concrete changes in relevant policy and practice. We are confident that her example, as both a public health researcher, and as a hygiene champion, will inspire future generations of WASH researchers and practitioners to be bold and ambitious.

The presence of statistical outliers is a shared concern in research. If ignored or improperly handled, outliers have the potential to distort parameter estimates and possibly compromise the validity of research findings. The purpose of this paper is to provide a conceptual and practical overview of multivariate outliers with a focus on common techniques used to identify and manage multivariate outliers. Specifically, this paper discusses the use of Mahalanobis distance and residual statistics as common multivariate outlier identification techniques. It also discusses the use of leverage and Cook’s distance as two common techniques to determine the influence that multivariate outliers may have on statistical models. Finally, this paper discusses techniques that are commonly used to handle influential multivariate outlier cases.
