Let X be a nonempty set and P(X) the power set of X. The aim of this paper is to provide an explicit description of the monoid End1P(X)(P(X)) of unital ring endomorphisms of the Boolean ring P(X) and the automorphism group Aut(P(X)) when X is finite. Among other facts, it is shown that if X has cardinality n≥1, then End1P(X)(P(X))≅Tnop, where Tn is the full transformation monoid on the set X and Aut(P(X))≅Sn.

Let [Formula: see text] be an associative unital ring and not necessarily commutative. We analyze conditions under which every [Formula: see text] matrix [Formula: see text] over [Formula: see text] is expressible as a sum [Formula: see text] of (commuting) idempotent matrices [Formula: see text] and a nilpotent matrix [Formula: see text].

Let [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] be finite posets and [Formula: see text] a commutative unital ring. In the case where [Formula: see text] is indecomposable, we prove that the [Formula: see text]-linear isomorphisms between partial flag incidence algebras [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are exactly those induced by poset isomorphisms between [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. We also show that the [Formula: see text]-linear derivations of [Formula: see text] are trivial.

Abstract Considering prime Leavitt path algebras L K ⁢ ( E ) {L_{K}(E)} , with E being an arbitrary graph with at least two vertices, and K being any field, we construct a class of maximal commutative subalgebras of L K ⁢ ( E ) {L_{K}(E)} such that, for every algebra A from this class, A has zero intersection with the commutative core ℳ K ⁢ ( E ) {\mathcal{M}_{K}(E)} of L K ⁢ ( E ) {L_{K}(E)} defined and studied in [C. Gil Canto and A. Nasr-Isfahani, The commutative core of a Leavitt path algebra, J. Algebra 511 2018, 227–248]. We also give a new proof of the maximality, as a commutative subalgebra, of the commutative core ℳ R ⁢ ( E ) {\mathcal{M}_{R}(E)} of an arbitrary Leavitt path algebra L R ⁢ ( E ) {L_{R}(E)} , where E is an arbitrary graph and R is a commutative unital ring.

The purpose of this paper is to prove the following result. Let n≥3 be some fixed integer and let R be a (n+1)!2n-2-torsion free semiprime unital ring. Suppose there exists an additive mapping D: R→ R satisfying the relation for all x ∈ R. In this case D is a derivation. The history of this result goes back to a classical result of Herstein, which states that any Jordan derivation on a 2-torsion free prime ring is a derivation.

Abstract In the present paper, the cyclic homology functor from the category of A ∞ {A_{\infty}} -algebras over any commutative unital ring K to the category of graded K-modules is constructed. Further, it is shown that this functor sends homotopy equivalences of A ∞ {A_{\infty}} -algebras into isomorphisms of graded modules. As a corollary, it is stated that the cyclic homology of an A ∞ {A_{\infty}} -algebra over any field is isomorphic to the cyclic homology of the A ∞ {A_{\infty}} -algebra of homologies for the source A ∞ {A_{\infty}} -algebra.

Let [Formula: see text] be a unital ring, let [Formula: see text] be a directed graph and recall that the Leavitt path algebra [Formula: see text] carries a natural [Formula: see text]-gradation. We show that [Formula: see text] is strongly [Formula: see text]-graded if and only if [Formula: see text] is row-finite, has no sink, and satisfies Condition (Y). Our result generalizes a recent result by Clark, Hazrat and Rigby, and the proof is short and self-contained.

There is a local ring [Formula: see text] of order [Formula: see text] without identity for the multiplication, defined by generators and relations as [Formula: see text] We study a recursive construction of self-orthogonal codes over [Formula: see text] We classify, up to permutation equivalence, self-orthogonal codes of length [Formula: see text] and size [Formula: see text] (called here quasi self-dual codes or QSD) up to the length [Formula: see text]. In particular, we classify Type IV codes (QSD codes with even weights) up to [Formula: see text].
