A glomus tumor is a soft tissue tumor that arises from the glomus body, a peripheral organ responsible for temperature regulation of the skin. It accounts for about 1% to 5% of tumors occurring in the hand, is mainly located in the subungal, and is less than 1 cm in size. Diagnosis is mainly based on clinical symptoms, and the main symptoms are pain at the site of glomus tumor, pinpoint tenderness, and cold intolerance. The pain is severe and usually requires surgical resection, and the results of treatment are good with complete resection of the tumor. In this case report, the patient is a 37-year-old female who developed pain in the radial side around the proximal interphalangeal joint of the right second finger without any traumatic history. On physical examination and imaging, it was diagnosed as a glomus tumor of the digital nerve and resected. After surgery, the symptoms improved and there was no recurrence. A careful examination and accurate diagnosis and treatment are necessary for symptomatic masses.

Glomus tumors are benign hyperplasia of glomus bodies, and they are rarely found in the head and neck. The middle ear is an exceptionally rare site for a true glomus tumor, and there are only three previously reported cases in this location. Glomus tumors are etiologically different than glomus tympanicum, which are paragangliomas of the middle ear that are often mistakenly referred to as “glomus tumors.” This is a common misconception due to the “glomus” misnomer. We report a case of a patient diagnosed with a middle ear glomangioma after initially presenting to our clinic with tinnitus and hearing loss. The mass was surgically removed through a transcanal approach with carbon dioxide laser and sharp dissection. Literature review is also reported and revealed similar presentations in patients with middle ear glomangiomas.

Background: Although there are various surgical methods for subungual glomus tumor treatment, there is no consensus on the optimal surgical approach. Methods: We analyzed the outcomes of 15 patients treated with partial nail plate excision technique. The medial or lateral section of the nail plate was excised longitudinally based on the tumor location. After incision of the nail bed and tumor removal, the matrix was repaired carefully. Results: In this study, 15 people, including 11 men and four women, were studied. The mean onset of symptoms until diagnosis was 88 months. In the postoperative evaluation, the mean follow-up was 20 months. Two patients had recurrent tumors, and one had postoperative nail deformity. Conclusion: Meticulous nail bed repair and complete tumor excision are key treatment points needed to prevent nail deformity and recurrence.
