Video-on-demand transmission system which is based on IP/DVB technology adopts C/S structure that is easy to operate and maintain for users to manage interactive commands and data transmission. Through interactive control on commands and media flow transmission by IP/DVB technology, it forms instant video-on-demand of transmission platform. The system is designed on the bases of multiple functions such as: response based on user command; analytical transmission of media stream; media stream receiving. Shaoxing radio is one of the digital cable TV pilots approved by the state, and has modified two-way radio and television network equipment. If large number of input network resources are idle, it will bring a lot of loss to radio companies.

A new structure of carrier recovery loop for high-order QAM is proposed in this paper, and applied in digital cable TV monitoring system. The structure operates in two modes with variable loop bandwidths, has the advantage of increasing convergence speed and minimizing the lock error, meanwhile, optimises the phase detection mode for the weighted DD algorithm to attain the fast recovery. Simulation results show that the algorithm is practicable and effective, and the carrier loop can capture up to 40% frequency offset of the symbol rate quickly and accurately.

This chapter focuses on digital cable TV networks as a convergent network with telecommunications networks and the Internet that provides broadcasting TV and radio, telecommunications services, and IP-based publishing and e-commerce. The chapter first traces the technological evolution of cable TV, highlighting recent developments in digitalization and convergence. The transformation of cable TV networks from channel operators to unified platforms is discussed. In doing so, the key terms and concepts in cable TV technology are introduced. The technological, political, regulatory, and economic forces behind the convergence are also identified. Furthermore, this chapter examines the value chain and collaborative opportunities among the participants in the digital cable TV revolution. User-centered business models of managing digital cable TV networks are proposed.
