Purpose: This study aimed to systematically develop an obesity prevention program for adolescents to promote healthy eating and physical activity in schools. Methods: The development of the Let's Eat Healthy and Move at School program for adolescents followed the six steps of intervention mapping (IM). IM is a widely used protocol for developing systematic and effective interventions based on theories and evidence. Results: To better understand the problem and identify the needs of adolescents, interviews were conducted with teachers, school nurses, and students (step 1). In step 2, the desired behaviors and their determinants were established and combined into a matrix comprising 16 change objectives. In step 3, theoretical methods such as persuasive communication and consciousness-raising were chosen. The program was segmented into three educational activity sessions in step 4. In step 5, an implementation manual was developed for program instructors to ensure effective and accurate implementation. Finally, practices for evaluating the program's effectiveness and procedures were designed in step 6.Conclusion: The Let’s Eat Healthy and Move at School program will provide adolescents with guidelines to promote healthy living and prevent obesity in everyday life using strategies for sustainable adolescent obesity prevention and management.

In 2015, The Wellcome Trust launched a new strategic approach to its work and created a framework to measure success. This article focuses on a particular dimension of this framework: research impact linked to the Trust’s pool of research award holders. This article describes why contribution tracing was chosen as an evaluation approach. It also describes how it was used in innovative ways to handle a large number of cases with potential for impact and develop an organisation-wide evaluation plan that makes the most out of data science techniques while increasing understanding of evaluation and facilitating collaboration and joint planning with colleagues across the organisation.

Abstract Objectives To describe the development of an initiative for water consumption in Mexican adolescents of public secondary schools. Methods Based on a diagnosis in adolescents 11 to 16 years from public secondary schools we developed an initiative following the Intervention Mapping protocol: (1) Logic model of the problem, (2) Logic model of change, (3) Program design, (4) Program production, (5) Program implementation plan, and (6) Evaluation plan. We established behavioral outcomes for the next levels: Intrapersonal (adolescents), Interpersonal (mothers and fathers), Organizational (principals and teachers) and Social (authorities of the respective Ministries of Education and Health). At Intrapersonal and Interpersonal levels, we based on the Health Belief Model and the Social Cognitive Theory. For Organizational and Social levels, we considered the Stage Theory of Organizational Change. Results We developed a comprehensive initiative with a gender perspective entitled EPCA (for its acronym in Spanish of Schools Promoting Water Consumption). It includes an online course for adolescents, which shows the benefits of water and the health risks of sugary drinks, it guides adolescents to identify their water requirement and gives them tips to achieve it. The course presents funny challenges and healthy advices in audiovisual materials. For principals, teachers, mothers, and fathers there are digital resources available on the Facebook page of the EPCA initiative, which aim to help adults guide adolescents to take the course online, in addition, the resources motivate them to consume water. For the implementation of the EPCA initiative we developed a manual and planned online workshops with authorities of the Ministries of Education and Health, principals, and parents. We developed a process and impact evaluation plan, in which we considered to make a randomized controlled trial. Conclusions The EPCA initiative is a multilevel online intervention that was developed in accordance with a systematic protocol grounded in theory and scientific evidence, which will be implemented in a pilot manner in a random sample of Mexican adolescents to evaluate their impact on water consumption. Funding Sources This study was financed by the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF-Mexico.

Abstract Background International benchmarking is a valued source of inspiration and learning for policy-makers to develop successful public health policies. Through comparison, the external coherence of one policy can be measured and its objectives redesigned. The French national health strategy (SNS) 2018-2022 comprises the French health policy framework focusing on four priority areas. The aim of this study was to conduct international benchmarking of current national health strategies to explore the external coherence of the SNS and evaluation methods. Methods A scoping review was conducted through available governmental and public health agencies' websites to survey national/federal health strategies in select high-income countries. Strategical approaches, governance and policy duration were compared with four health priorities of the French SNS: prevention, social/territorial inequalities, quality of care, innovation. A descriptive analysis of these strategies' evaluation methods, including relevant indicators, was executed. Results Out of 18 countries selected, 11 have a current strategy akin to the four priorities of the French SNS, with a timeline stipulated to implement the policy. The strategies of Australia and Switzerland, out of nine countries with strategies covering these areas, bear the closest resemblance to the French SNS. Evaluation methods varied largely across countries. Conclusions The majority of countries contain a health strategy with a longer duration compared to the French SNS, irrespective of governance. Similar priorities were found for countries with a national health strategy, with other countries developing at least prevention plans. Most countries provided only partial evaluation methods or overall health target indicators, to be taken into account for the development of the French SNS evaluation plan Key messages International benchmarking is essential to identify best practices in health policy design. As a result, future French health strategies may benefit from a longer duration of implementation. If great efforts were put in place in France to build a strategy evaluation plan, other countries focused mostly on implementation reports or monitoring national health targets through indicators.
