Pericardial tamponade results in multiple organ dysfunction and can lead to cardiac arrest. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), a life-saving measure performed on patients in cardiac arrest, can lead to thoracic organ damage. However, CPR rarely acts as a therapeutic treatment for pericardial tamponade. Our case describes a patient admitted with pericardial tamponade in whom CPR provided therapeutic treatment with pericardial rupture and resolution of the tamponade.

Objective: To compare CT findings between malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) and metastatic pleuraldisease (MPD).Materials and Methods: CT chest images of 157 cases of pathologically-proven malignant pleural disease(21 MPM, 136 MPD) were retrospectively reviewed by two radiologists who were blinded to the diagnosis. Findingsof interest included pleural effusion, pleural thickening, organ invasion, lymphadenopathy, dominant lung nodule, pulmonary or extra-thoracic organ metastasis, and asbestos-related disease. Results: Findings commonly found in MPM compared with MPD are circumferential pleural thickening (52.4%vs 14.0%, p<0.001), pleural mass (33.3% vs 7.4%, p<0.001), organs invasion (57.1% vs 9.6%, p<0.001), and asbestosrelated disease (19% vs 0%, p<0.001).Conclusions: Circumferential pleural thickening, pleural mass, presence of organ invasion, and CT finding ofasbestos-related pleural disease were the CT findings that raise the possibility of MPM.

AbstractThe growing unmet demand for suitable organ donors increases each year. Despite relative contraindications for thoracic organ donation after previous cardiac surgery, experienced programmes and surgeons can successfully utilise the lungs from select donors who have undergone prior cardiac surgery. This is the first reported case of double lung en bloc procurement from a donor who had a previous arterial switch operation as an infant.

The application of radiologic measurement methods has provided very sensitive and more accurate evaluation, compared with subjective assessment, especially in subtle cases of thoracic organ size anomaly. The objective of the study was to determine radiologic ratios for diagnostic and biometric cardiothoracic evaluations in the Nigerian Indigenous Dog. Thirty healthy dogs (average body weight: 8.2 kg; range: 4.0 – 15.6 kg) consisting of equal number of males and females were recruited for the investigation. Sixty dorsoventral versus ventrodorsal thoracic projections of each of the research dogs were acquired. Parameters in each radiograph were objectively evaluated, as follows: thoracic diameter, cardiac diameter in views, cardiac length and cardiac width. Indices generated in the views were the cardiothoracic ratios (CTR) and the cardiac indices (CI). Mean ± standard error of mean CTR and CI values were 0.50±0.01/0.56±0.01 and 0.56±0.01/0.61±0.01, between the opposite views, respectively. These results are objective, reproducible and easily applicable to veterinary clinical practice for radiologic cardiac appraisal.
