Abstract Background and Aim Nurses perception and attitude towards an older patient can positively or negatively influence the quality rendered. As students under training, the views of this population needs to be sought and shaped to improve the quality of care the older patients receive. This is because life expectancy is on the rise. The study aimed to explore students’ perception of ageing and their attitude towards care of the older adults. Methods and materials An exploratory descriptive design was used. Data form containing the sociodemographic attributes of the students and a semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers in line with the literature. The participants interviewed were student nurses who had been in clinical practice for at least one semester. Four focus group discussions (FGD) were held. Results Average age of the participants was 22.30 years. An equal number of males and females (15 each) were recruited to have a balance in gender. Students expressed that they saw the older adults as their grandparents so they try to accord them respect and care. However, older adults are perceived not receptive to nurses in training. The students stated that registered nurses neglected the basic care of older adults such as diaper changes, bathing, and feeding, and would rather beckon student nurses to attend to the older adults. Conclusion Gerontology as a stand-alone course is necessary for early years of training to give an in-depth education to nursing students and instil a positive attitude towards older adult patients.

The olive moth (OM), Prays oleae (Bern.) (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae), is a major olive grove pest worldwide; however, until now, very few studies have investigated the effectiveness of mating disruption (MD) techniques against this pest. Experiments were carried out for two successive years (2019 and 2020) in three different olive groves in Andalucía (Southern Spain) to evaluate mating disruption’s efficacy in controlling the OM from the first to the third generation. The effectiveness of MD formulations against the three generations of OM was assessed by determining the percentage of infested olive fruits, the reduction of pheromone trap catches, and the number of affected inflorescences in both MD-treated and untreated control olive groves. The number of release points (one or two aerosol devices per ha) was also evaluated. In all years and trials, the mean number of males caught in traps placed in the MD-treated plots was significantly lower than untreated sites. Mating disruption registered a high suppression of male captures (>75%) in treated plots for two consecutive seasons. Concerning infested olive fruits, substantial reductions (about 80%) were observed in the MD plots of locations B and C, and a reduction of about 40% was detected in location A, compared to the control plot. Results showed that the installation of two aerosol devices/ha reduced fruit damage below 20% of infested olive fruits except for one site where a reduction of about 71% in the MD plot was recorded in 2019. Although few significant differences were associated with OM male catches and infested olive fruits between plots treated with one aerosol/ha and two aerosols/ha in most of the comparisons, significant differences in the number of olive inflorescences infested by P. oleae were found, suggesting a similar performance between the two tested aerosol densities. Results of two-year field trials in Andalucía demonstrated the potential of Mister P X841 aerosol devices as an effective tool for controlling the olive moth, P. oleae.

Abstract In today’s world, tertiary institutions provide Computer Science and Information Technology courses to students for them to have the opportunity to improve the thinking computational skills they will need to function in today's computation-dependent society. Moreover, pupils who think they can finish programming tasks successfully are likely more to become interested. Additionally, effective approaches to impart computer programming frequently rise pupils' interest in programming. As a result, the study sought to examine college students’ interest in programming. The research design for the study was a survey method. The study’s population comprise of Computer Science and Information Technology students at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. The sample size was 368 where we used a systematic sampling technique to select participants for the study. The study shows that majority of college students have interest in programming. The results revealed that the total number of males who have interest in programming are greater than females and that the total number of males who study programming far outweigh the total number of females. It is recommended that females should be encouraged to study programming at the various institutions that provide programming courses to students.

Abstract The macadamia nut borer moth Gymnandrosoma aurantianum, is the main pest of macadamia (Macadamia integrifolia) in Central America. This study investigates the effect of the host (M. integrifolia) on attraction of G. aurantianum to its sex pheromone. Y-Tube bioassays showed that females G. aurantianum were attracted to volatiles from M. integrifolia leaves and flowers, while males responded to volatiles from flowers. Both sexes had significantly different electroantennographic responses (EAG) to the extracts of volatiles from flowers, fruits and leaves and (E)-8-dodecenyl acetate (main component of the sex pheromone of G. aurantianum). Females G. aurantianum exhibited electroantennographic responses by CG-EAD to phenylacetaldehyde, (1Z)-3-methylbutanal oxime and (E)-β-ocimene, while the males showed antennal activity in response to phenylacetaldehyde, (1E)-3-methylbutanal oxime, (1Z)-3-methylbutanal oxime, present in the extracts of M. integrifolia. The EAG dose-response with ocimene (mix of isomers) showed that female antennal activity increases as the dose increases, while with males, the highest dose elicited a response that was significantly different from the control. In field tests, the mixture (ocimene/(E)-8-dodecenyl acetate) with the proportion of 10:1 was the treatment that captured the highest number of males and females. Also, we observed that the lowest number of male captures was obtained with the proportion of 1:1, compared to the traps baited with only (E)-8-dodecenyl acetate. These results suggest that the binary mixture of ocimene plus (E)-8-dodecenyl acetate in a proportion of 10:1 could be an option for monitoring this pest because we obtained captures of both sexes.

The study was conducted between March and September 2019 in six meat-type turkey flocks with similar management standard procedures using the transect walk method. The concept of the method is based on visual observation of the birds while slowly walking across the entire farm in predetermined transects. Each flock was evaluated at three different times during the fattening cycle: at 3 to 4, 12 to 13, and 19 to 20 weeks of age, and total number of males and females that were immobile or lame, had visible head, vent, or back wounds, were small, featherless, dirty, or sick, had pendulous crop, or showed aggression toward birds or humans were recorded. At each visit, NH3 and CO2 were measured within the facilities. In the first assessment, the most frequently observed welfare indicators were small size (0.87%) and immobility (0.08%). Males showed a significantly higher prevalence of small size (p < 0.01), sickness (p < 0.05), and dirtiness (p < 0.1) compared to females. In the second assessment, the most common findings in both sexes were dirtiness (1.65%) and poor feather condition (1.06%), followed by immobility (0.28%). Males were significantly dirtier (p < 0.001), had more immobile birds (p < 0.01) and birds with vent wounds (p < 0.1), but had fewer sick birds (p < 0.05). In the last assessment, an increase in immobile, lame, sick, and dead birds was recorded, indicating an increase in health problems. Higher CO2 (3000 and 4433 ppm) and NH3 (40 and 27.6 ppm) values were noted only at the first assessment in two facilities. Further analyses showed that slightly elevated NH3 and CO2 levels did not influence the occurrence of welfare indicators. This study is the first description of the welfare of commercial turkey flocks in Slovenia.

The aim to conduct this research is to enlighten the impact of body image dissatisfaction on an individual’s self-esteem and to examine whether there is a gender difference in this case or not. There are a total of 220 numbers of participants, with equal number of males and females in the sample set. The tool that’d be using here is a modified short version of the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) by Cooper et. Al. in the year in 1987 and The Rosenberg self-esteem scale by Morris Rosenberg (RSES) in the year 1965. The current research proved that whenever there’ll be higher body image dissatisfaction, it’ll result in less self-esteem. Other than that, it stated that females (M= 22.69 and SD= 3.64) have a higher mean score in body image dissatisfaction than and males (M=23.28 and SD= 3.6), therefore, the men have a higher mean score of self-esteem than females.

Spodoptera frugiperda merupakan hama baru di Indonesia yang menyerang tanaman jagung dan memiliki berbagai macam tanaman inang lain. Salah satu tanaman yang dimungkinkan menjadi inang dari hama ini di Indonesia adalah bayam. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui lama siklus hidup S. frugiperda yang diberikan pakan daun bayam cabut hijau dan daun bayam duri hijau. Metode penelitian ini yaitu permeliharaan S. furgiperda dengan sumber pakan yang berbeda dan mengamati beberapa parameter. Analisis statistik berupa inferensial, data yang dilakukan dengan uji normalitas Shapiro-Wilk. Apabila data normal dilakukan uji homogenitas dengan dilanjutkan analisis ANNOVA. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa S. frugiperda pada pakan kontrol (daun jagung) memiliki lama siklus hidup 38 hari, daun bayam cabut hijau 40 hari, dan daun bayam duri hijau 42 hari. Panjang larva S. frugiperda paling panjang didapatan pada pakan daun bayam duri hijau, sedangkan diameter kepala tidak terdapat perbedaan antara ketiga pakan. Bobot larva paling berat didapatkan pada pakan daun bayam cabut hijau. Panjang dan berat pupa S. frugiperda paling tinggi didapatkan pada pakan daun bayam duri hijau. Jumlah jantan paling banyak dihasilkan pada pakan daun bayam cabut hijau dan daun bayam duri hijau, sedangkan jumlah betina paling banyak dihasilkan pakan kontrol. Jumlah telur paling banyak dihasilkan pada pakan kontrol dan paling sedikit pada bayam duri hijau. Pakan bayam cabut dan bayam duri daun bayam cabut hijau dan bayam duri hijau dapat digunakan sebagai pakan alternatif bagi S. frugiperda di laboratorium. Kata kunci: pakan alternatif; perkembangan; pertumbuhan; Spodoptera frugiperda ABSTRACTLife cycle of Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. Smith with green spinach and green thorn  spinach leaves in the laboratory. Spodoptera frugiperda is a new pest in Indonesia that attacks maize and has a wide variety of other host plants. One of the plants that is possible to host this pest in Indonesia is spinach. The purpose of this study was to determine the length of the life cycle of S. frugiperda which was fed with green spinach leaves and green thorn spinach leaves. This research method is the maintenance of S. furgiperda with different feed sources and observing several parameters. Statistical analysis in the form of inferential, the data was done by using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test. If the data is normal, the homogeneity test is carried out followed by ANNOVA analysis. The results showed that S. frugiperda in control diets (corn leaves) had a life cycle length of 38 days, green spinach leaves 40 days, and green thorn spinach leaves 42 days. Thelarvae of longestS. frugiperda were found in green thorn spinach leaf feed, while there was no difference in head diameter between the three diets. The heaviest larval weight was found in green pulled spinach feed. Thelength and weight ofpupa were S. frugiperda highestfound in green thorn spinach leaf feed. The highest number of males was produced in green spinach leaf and green spinach leaf feed, while the highest number of females was produced in control feed. The highest number of eggs was produced in the control feed and the least was the green thorn spinach. Spinach feed and spinach spines, green pulled spinach and green spiny spinach can be used as an alternative feed for S. frugiperda in the laboratory.  Keywords: alternative food; development; growth; Spodoptera frugiperda

In this paper is reported the evaluation of biological efficacy of two minor components that was added to the basic sex pheromone component Cydia pomonella L., E8, E10-C12-OH. The use of minor component- C.M.-1 of increasing concentrations in binary mixture compositions with the basic sex phe-romone component of codling moth on pheromone-impregnated rubber septa in delta pheromone traps has shown an increased effectiveness by 56-62% in field trials on apple orchard. At the same time, the number of males caught in delta pheromone traps where were used minor component - C.M.-2 in binary mixture compositions increased by 29-35%. Auxiliary research is still needed.

The scope of the research was to determine the biological efficiency of the multicomponent blend of Orienthal fruit moth sex pheromone in the apple orchard. The introduction of the minor component M1 in doses of 10% to the basic components on dispensers had led to a increase in number of males caught in sex pheromone traps by 1,7 times. While the male captures on traps where was added 10% of minor component M2 to the basic ones had led to a increase by 1,2 times. The minor component M2 in-crease of doses had led to a proportional decrease of the male caught in traps. Research will be continued.

Gender gap in Engineering streams is not new. More number of males are seen enrolling for these streams compared to females. In a developing country like India, the population is predominately young and this gap can make a large impact. Interestingly, a noticeable gender gap is also witnessed in students opting for medicine in India. The number of females opting to study medicine is higher compared to males. The large population also creates a surging demand for admissions into reputed institutes and these institutes are few in number, to make it an even ground for students to enter these institutes, National level examinations are conducted every year like the NEET and the AIEE. This present study looks at the statistical data from past five years of these National-level exams conducted for students interested to pursue medicine or engineering. These exams determine student’s admission into IIT’s and other reputed institutes. A significant and a constant gap was observed in gender. In a large democratic country, professional courses like engineering and medicine should not be exclusive for a single gender. Policies and further studies should be made to create these exams and courses gender inclusive
