Métodos em Linguística Popular (aplicada): o que pensa o povo? (Methods in (applied) folk linguistics: getting into the minds of the folk)

Este artigo trata da coleta e interpretação de dados em linguística popular, mas, como o título entre parênteses sugere, não se limita a qualquer noção pré-concebida de quais abordagens ou técnicas podem ser mais relevantes para a ampla variedade de preocupações no âmbito da linguística aplicada. Vou conceber a linguística popular amplamente aqui, incluindo não apenas os comentários que os não linguistas fazem sobre os tópicos linguísticos, mas também, as reações que eles têm a variedades de linguagem e uso da linguagem, incluindo respostas abertas e subconscientes. Em outras palavras, as descobertas da psicologia social da linguagem (ou seja, estudos de atitude) são consideradas parte da linguística popular, juntamente com dados derivados de um discurso mais consciente ou de funções operacionais. Esta é uma posição diferente daquela que atribui o rótulo de “linguística folk/popular” a respostas mais conscientes e “atitudes de linguagem” a outras relativamente mais inconscientes (NIEDZIELSKI; PRESTON, 2003, p. xi).

Racismo estrutural no Brasil: lugares parciais de fala, pré-construído e Linguística popular/Folk linguistics (Structural racism in Brazil: partial places of speech, pre-constructed and Folk linguistcs)

Neste ensaio, discutimos o uso que tem sido feito do conceito de racismo estrutural, que busca descrever e explicar, de um ponto de vista sociológico, as razões pelas quais, brasileiros, somos racistas desde alhures. Para tanto, mobilizamos dois outros conceitos, a saber, lugares parciais de fala e pré-construído (PÊCHEUX, 1975). Realizamos também uma pequena digressão asseverando que o conceito de racismo estrutural tal qual o conceito de classe social da maneira como vem sendo mobilizado está completamente esvaziado de sua “potência de ação” transformadora da sociedade (BUTLER, 1997), contribuindo, mesmo que de maneira inadvertida, para a propagação do mito da democracia racial brasileira. Por último, ressaltamos o papel social militante da Linguística popular/Folk linguistics na construção de uma sociedade igualitária, decente.

Sobre a linguística popular de Mário de Andrade

Neste artigo vamos apresentar inicialmente um breve panorama dos estudos em Linguística Popular/Folk Linguistics (NIEDZIELSKI; PRESTON, 2003), sua metodologia e diferentes abordagens para o estudo dos comentários sobre a linguagem feitos por não especialistas (PAVEAU, 2020). As práticas linguísticas realizadas por estes não linguistas podem revelar estratégias bastante diversificadas quanto à construção de teorias espontâneas sobre língua e linguagem, alinhadas ou não às teorias formalizadas já consagradas num ambiente científico e acadêmico. Posteriormente, para discussão e análise destas práticas linguísticas (como elas podem ser categorizadas, como elas podem ser utilizadas,...) utilizamos aqui o texto A Gramatiquinha da Fala Brasileira de Mario da Andrade (PINTO, 1990). Nossa investigação pretende verificar como estas práticas linguísticas espontâneas (descritivistas, normativistas, intervencionistas e militantes) são realizadas por Mario de Andrade e como elas podem ser observadas, a partir dos comentários do autor, enquanto comentários sobre língua e linguagem que poderiam caracteriza-lo eventualmente como um linguista popular.

Dialek Pasir Raja: Ciri Fonologi dan Pengelompokan

This paper discusses the spoken Malay dialect in the Pasir Raja subdistrict. From the perspective of folk linguistics, this dialect is deemed distinctive from the general Terengganu dialect. This thus raises a few issues that need to be addressed, namely (i) the phonological features that render the dialect different from other Malay dialects, and (ii) the relationship between this dialect and the other dialects in the eastern region of Peninsular Malaysia. To address these issues, the present study collected and recorded more than 600 words and conversations in the Pasir Raja dialect as its corpus. Based on the diachronic dialectology approach, this study describes some phonological features of the dialect and compares them with the features of Proto-Malayic and several other Malay dialects. This comparison was made for classification purposes. A number of phonological features discovered in the Pasir Raja dialect suggest the dialect is to be included as a branch of the Malay dialects of the interior on the eastern part of the Peninsula. Apart from the linguistic evidence, the close connection between the dialects is also proven by historical and sociological evidence. The significance of this study is the discovery of the existence of another Malay dialect in the east of the Peninsula.

Names of Cuckoo and Cuckoo Chick in Russian Folk Linguistics

The research is carried out in the context of ethnolinguistics, which is aimed at analyzing nominations of ecosystem objects as means of presenting relations between language and culture, and in particular, specificity in their perception by various ethnical and subethnical (dialect) groups. The authors rely on two suppositions: though flora and fauna are reflected diacritically in linguistic consciousness of various dialect communities due to physical, geographical, social environment, there exist some universal lexical and phraseological language means to describe every object of nature. The purpose of the article is to determine the regularities in nomination of the cuckoo as a significant linguocultural representative of fauna. The material for the study was the card file of the Linguistic Atlas of Russian folk dialects, stored at the Institute for linguistic research of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Saint Petersburg). The research has shown that the nominations of the cuckoo and the cuckoo chick have special implications in the linguistic consciousness of the Russian people. These units have onomatopoietic origin, they have undergone phonetic, derivational and semantic transformations in the Russian dialect continuum. Ornithonyms implement a binary semantic correlation, linking the sphere of living nature, to which they belong by denotative features, and the human character – the area where their development of connotative-contextual semantics leads, due to the specifics of the linguocreative thinking of the language personality.
