ROSES: Remote Online Sessions for Emerging Seismologists

In response to a pandemic causing the cancellation of numerous professional development programs for emerging seismologists, we successfully planned, promoted, and executed an 11 week online school for advanced graduate students worldwide during the summer of 2020. Remote Online Sessions for Emerging Seismologists included 11 distinct lessons focused on different topics in seismology. We highlight the course content, structure, technical requirements, and participation statistics. We additionally provide a series of “lessons learned” for those in the community wishing to establish similar programs.

New Approaches in Teaching Immigration and Ethnic History

This chapter provides a review of scholarly literature in the field of immigration and ethnic history that introduces readers to recent and major lines of research, problems, and themes. The literature discussed in this chapter and that appears in the notes provides both a basic and advanced graduate-level reading list for teaching and study.

Graduate Students and Scholars Funded

To increase graduate student participation in the Annual Meeting, the association awarded Advanced Graduate Student Travel Grants for the 2013 Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois. Recognizing challenging economic times across academia, Cambridge University Press offered $5,000 to supplement the APSA travel grants program and support graduate students and scholars participating in the APSA Annual Meeting. The names and institutional affiliations of the awardees follow.
