Idiopathic mesenteric phlebosclerosis (IMP) is a rare clinical manifestation of ischemic enteropathy. There are no specific manifestations in the early stages. Digestive symptoms only present in the advanced stage. Diagnosis relies on extensive calcification of the mesenteric venule and extensive intestinal wall thickening via computed tomography (CT) scanning. A 50 years old Chinese woman who had taken herbal medicine for three years was diagnosed with IMP. All treatment after admission was in vain and she died 30 days thereafter. Therefore, when a patient with long-term oral intake of herbal medicine, which contains geniposde, presents with unknown ischemia, abdominal pain, mucinous stools, bloody stools, attention should be paid to screen IMP.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture treatment for acute icteric hepatitis. Method: Forty patients with acute icteric hepatitis were randomized into a treatment group and a control group (20 in each group). Oral liver-protecting medicine was administrated for the control group. In the treatment group, acupuncture with Yinlingquan-SP9, Yanglingquan-GB34, Zhusanli-ST36, Sanyinjiao-SP6, and Taichong-LR3 was added. The clinical efficacies and serum liver enzymes, including (TB, ALT, and GGT) were evaluated. Result: The total effective rate was 94.7% in the treatment group and 85.0% in the control group respectively, which differed significantly different(P<0.05). The liver function indexes decreased significantly in both groups after treatment (P<0.01). The indicators of the treatment group were significantly lower than those of the control group after treatment (P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture combined with hepatoprotective drugs could be an effective method to treat acute jaundice hepatitis and showed better effectiveness than the single use of the conventional therapy.

Male androgenetic alopecia (MAA) is observed as a high severity risk factor but not listed within underlying COVID-19 conditionsdue to scanty available evidence. From a Chinese medicine (CM) perspective, the pathogenesis of MAA is overlapping with many recognised underlying conditions. This article compares CM meridian theory with MAA pattern progression to illustrate 1) the morphological and topographical superposition between the MAA progressing pattern and CM meridians, 2) damp-heat dominated body constitution presences among MAA patients as well as some underlying COVID-19 conditions, 3) vulnerable body type should be alerted and recognised to avoid an increase in infectious severity rate. The fundamental acupuncture points of treatment are provided for a concrete clarification of MAA.

In the fight against COVID-19 in China, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has played an important role in relieving symptoms, preventing deterioration, improving cure rate, reducing death rate, and promoting recovery. Since the third edition of the Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for COVID-19 (simply referred to as the National Protocol), TCM has been included in the national guidance to tackle the epidemic. In order to make the international medical community fully understand the experience of TCM in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19, we comprehensively reviewed the history, etiology and pathogenesis, prevention and treatment, rehabilitation, and clinical and pharmacological research of TCM used in the endemic. The COVID-19 is under the category of plague or pestilence in TCM. Herbal medicine treatment for COVID-19 is mainly performed based on the syndrome differentiation of three stages and four types. The method also applies to acupuncture and moxibustion treatments. Herbal medicine granules and injections are used flexibly, and Western medicine is adopted to rescue patients in critical conditions. In rehabilitation, the integration of Chinese and Western medicine can be used to improve the respiratory and somatic function of patients. The role TCM has been playing in fighting this epidemic is a further proof of the effect of TCM in preventing and treating infectious diseases, and the relevant experience has been summarized and sublimated.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a unique set of therapeutic methods for plagues. COVID-19 is a severe type of pneumonia caused by a new coronavirus, which manifests in fever, cough, headache, fatigue, difficulty breathing, and other symptoms. TCM has fully displayed its advantages of various approaches in this epidemic, including herbal decoction, patent herbs, aroma packets, acupuncture, massage, etc. These methods have played an essential role in the prevention, treatment, and nursing of COVID-19, not only in alleviating the early clinical symptoms of patients but reducing the progression from mild to severe symptoms. Thanks to the advantages of treating the pandemic, we should pay more attention to TCM modalities.

Abstract Ascites is a common dangerous and lethal complication of the liver cirrhosis. In Chinese Medicine, the ascites due to the liver cirrhosis belongs to Gu Zhang i.e. drum distention, which can be treated by Shi Zao Tang (Ten Jujubes Decoction). Although the Shi Zao Tang with Wan Yua (Flos Genkwa), Gan Sui (Radix Kansui), and Da Ji (Radix Euphorbiae Pekinensis) drastically purging and expel water, the herbs are toxic, which must be restrained by the proper use of Da Zao (Fructus Jujube). Additionally, Gu Zhang is characterized by deficient Ben-root and excess Biao-branch. Therefore, clinical attention should be given to carefully neutralize the toxicity of the three herbs, based on the correct diagnosis of the Ben-root and Biao -branch.
