α-Regio- and diastereoselective (3+2) cycloadditions of nitrone ylides derived from isatins with activated alkenes have been demonstrated. This mild protocol allows rapid access to a wide range of 3′,5′-diaryl-1′-hydroxy-2-oxospiro[indoline-3,2′-pyrrolidine] derivatives by using DABCO as an efficient catalyst. This method could also be carried out through three-component reaction efficiently in good yields and excellent diastereoselectivity.

Post-functionalization at the C3 position of indolizines via In(iii)-catalyzed three-component coupling reaction with amines and aldehydes allowed rapid access to a new class of indolizines with diverse functional groups at the C3 position in good to excellent yields.

A straightforward and environmentally friendly synthesis of CF3-containing imidazolines and oxazolidines has been developed through an electrochemical three-component reaction among allylamines, the Langlois reagent, and nitrile or carbonyl compounds.
