Abstract: Microwave (MW)-assistance may be a powerful tool also in the Hirao P–C coupling reactions of vinyl/aryl halides with dialkyl phosphites in the presence of Pd-catalysts/P-ligands elaborated forty years ago. This review surveys the development of this reaction by showing the expansion of the reagents and catalysts, as well as the information accumulated. The stress was laid on the “green” aspects, the simplification of the catalyst systems, and the reliable mechanistic details in order to be able to establish the optimum conditions. The best protocol involves the use of some excess of the >P(O)H reagent to ensure the PdII→Pd0 reduction and, via its trivalent tautomeric form (>POH) also the P-ligand. The overall rate is the result of two factors, the activity of the catalyst complex formed, and the reactivity of the reactants in the P–C coupling reactions. Both components are influenced by the nature of the aryl substituents in Ar2P(O)H. NiII salts may also be used as the catalyst precursor, however, despite the PdII→Pd0→PdII route, in this case, a NiII→NiIV→NiII sequence was proved.

Lanthanides (LnIII) are well known for their characteristic emission in the Near-Infrared Region (NIR). However, direct excitation of lanthanides is not feasible as described by Laporte’s parity selection rule. Here,...

Glucose-, galactose- and lactose-containing photosensitizers based on derivatives of chlorophyll a and bacteriochlorophyll a were synthesized with the use of [3+2] cycloaddition between sugar azides and triple bond derivatives of chlorins and bacteriochlorins. Unlike bacteriochlorin cycloimide, chlorin was detected to form a Cu -complex during the click reaction. An approach to the synthesis of metal-free glycosylated chlorins was developed with the use of "protection" by Zn 2+ cation and subsequent demetalation. It is based on the action of alkynyl chlorin e6 derivative Zn -complex, which is resistant to the substitution by copper cation. Bacteriochlorin p cycloimide conjugate with per-acetylated β-D-lactose was obtained and shown to become water-soluble after unblocking of the lactose hydroxy functions. NMR studies allowed for the elucidation of structure, tautomeric form and conformation of the obtained compounds.

Summary The syntheses of the title compounds have been achieved starting from 4,5-diamino-2-methylpyrimidin-6( 1 H)one. Sufficient amounts of the quinonoid 7,8-dihydropteridin-4(6H)-ones (12-14) were formed upon oxidation of the corresponding 5,6,7 ,8-tetrahydro derivatives (15 -17) to show that they are substrates of dihydroptcridine reductase (human). The apparent Km and Kcal values of (12-14) were determined. These provided evidence that the tautomeric form of the natural cofactor 7,8-dihydro(6H)biopterin has the endocyclic C2- N3 double bond structure (29).
