In this work, Au-modified F-TiO2 is developed as a simple and efficient photocatalyst for H2O2 production under ultraviolet light. The Au/F-TiO2 photocatalyst avoids the necessity of adding fluoride into the reaction medium for enhancing H2O2 synthesis, as in a pure TiO2 reaction system. The F− modification inhibits the H2O2 decomposition through the formation of the ≡Ti–F complex. Au is an active cocatalyst for photocatalytic H2O2 production. We compared the activity of TiO2 with F− modification and without F− modification in the presence of Au, and found that the H2O2 production rate over Au/F-TiO2 reaches four times that of Au/TiO2. In situ electron spin resonance studies have shown that H2O2 is produced by stepwise single-electron oxygen reduction on the Au/F-TiO2 photocatalyst.

The first discovered homogeneous oscillatory reaction was the Bray-Liebhafsky (BL) one, described in a paper published exactly 100 years ago. However, the applicability of oscillatory reactions in chemical computing was recently discovered. Here we intend to expose the native computing concept applied to intermittent states of the BL reaction, because we believe that this particular state may have some advantages. For this purpose, numerical simulations will be used based on the known model. Sequences of perturbations will be introduced by adding iodate (IO3-) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), separately, as well as in various combinations with one another. It will be shown that dynamic states obtained after perturbations with same species depend very much on the sequence in which these species were used in perturbations. Additionally, it will be shown that obtained dynamic states shift the system from chaotic intermittent dynamic state to different complex periodic states. Hence, the applicability of the BL reaction system in chemical computing was demonstrated.

Among advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), the photochemically enhanced Fenton reaction may be considered as one of the most efficient for the degradation of contaminants in industrial wastewater. This process involves a series of complex reactions. Therefore, an empirical model based on artificial neural networks has been developed for fitting the experimental data obtained in a laboratory batch reactor for the degradation of 2,4-dimethyl aniline (2,4-xylidine), chosen as a model pollutant. The model describes the evolution of the pollutant concentration during irradiation time as a function of the process conditions. It has been used for simulating the behavior of the reaction system in sensitivity studies aimed at optimizing the amounts of reactants employed in the process, an iron(III) salt and hydrogen peroxide, as well as the temperature. The results show that the process is most sensitive to the concentration of iron(III) salt and temperature, whereas the concentration of hydrogen peroxide has a minor effect.
