Bleeding time in rats was markedly prolonged after the adminstration of the water extract of Hsien-Ho-T'sao. This antihemostatic effect was more marked in the group of i.p. injection of the drug than in the group of p.o. administration for 2 to 7 consecutive days. Blood coagulation studies showed that plasma prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time and stypven time were prolonged, while thrombin time adnd fibrinogen level were not changed. The thromboelastographic recording showed that reation time was prolonged and maximal elasticity of clot was decreased. In addition, ADP- and collagen- induced aggregations of platelet-rich plasma was suppressed. In conclusion, the prolongation of the bleeding time might be due to both anticoagulant and antiplatelet action of the drug.

Myocardial infraction (AMI) is an irreversible myocardial injury and necrosis caused by serious and long-term ischemia. It is generally seen in middle aged men with high risk factors for coronary artery disease. Only 4% of patients with AMI are under 40 years of age. This was a cross sectional study conducted at AL SHAB hospital, Khartoum, Sudan, aimed to estimate the fibrinogen level among Sudanese patients with myocardial infraction. 50 patients attending Alshab Hospital and diagnosed with MI used as a case group and 50 apparently healthy individuals with no history of MI were selected as control group. 1.8 ml of blood samples has been collected in sodium citrate anticoagulant container for measurement of fibrinogen level by clauss method in coagulometer device. It is clearly significant increase in fibrinogen level in myocardial infraction patient (p.value 0.000). In addition, the prothrombin time and gender were insignificantly differences in (AMI) patients. In the other hand, age and smoking significantly increased as risk factor in myocardial infraction. This study concluded that fibrinogen level was significantly increased in Sudanese patients with  myocardial infraction. Keywords: Myochardial Infraction, Fibrinogen, Prothrombin Time, Coagulometer

Coagulopathies in horses are common and potentially life-threatening. In equine field medicine, a portable point-of-care (POC) prothrombin time (PT) testing device could be useful to identify early changes in extrinsic clotting. The CoaguChek-XS (Roche Diagnostics) is a small, portable POC PT analyzer used in human medicine. Our preliminary study assessed the suitability of CoaguChek-XS for testing PT in horses and established the PT reference interval (PT RI) in healthy horses using this instrument. Blood samples collected from 102 healthy and ill horses were analyzed with the CoaguChek-XS and compared to a semi-automated coagulometric analyzer (SACA) as the gold standard. There was a significant positive correlation between the 2 measurement methods ( r = 0.765, p < 0.01), and very good agreement, with 97% of the samples falling within limits of agreement. The mean CoaguChek-XS PT coefficient of variation was 0.8%, indicating high precision. With high precision and good agreement with the coagulometric PT, the CoaguChek-XS should be further validated for PT measurement in horses.

Preoperative hemostasis testing may have limited use in patients with liver disease, and an abnormal platelet count, prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, and fibrinogen level should not trigger prophylactic transfusion of blood product components.
