Transcrystallinity in maize tissues/polypropylene composites: First focus of the heterogeneous nucleation and growth stages versus tissue type

AbstractWe have investigated excimer laser irradiation of 2000-Å-thin as-deposited Al films on SiO2. Microstructural analysis of the irradiated films conducted with AFM and EBSD techniques reveals that there exists a wide energy density interval over which large equaxed grains with a strong (111) texture are obtained. Based on thermal, transformational, and microstructural considerations, we propose a heterogeneous nucleation model to account for the observed behaviors, and discuss the implication of the model on the phenomenon of heterogeneous nucleation of crystalline solids in condensed systems as regards the thermodynamic role played by the orientation of subcritical clusters.

High temperature annealing effects on Oxygen-induced defects formation has been studied by IR-LST, FTIR and TEM techniques. The results show that most defects are amorphous oxygen precipitates and/or dislocations. Ham’s theory has been modified in order to take into account the variations of interstitial oxygen concentration during the formation of precipitates. Comparison between experimental data and simulation shows that the specificity of annealing cycle is to combine both nucleation and growth stages. The morphology and stoechiometry of SiOx precipitates are also studied.
