During a survey of endophytic fungi in aquatic plants collected from Tibet, PR China, a novel species, Ramichloridium endophyticum, was isolated from Potamogeton pectinatus. This novel species differs from other species of the genus Ramichloridium by its finely verrucose, obovoid, ellipsoidal–obovoid and occasionally subglobose conidia. Phylogenetic analysis of the combined sequences of the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) and the translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene (tef1-α) confirmed that the isolated strain represents a member of the genus Ramichloridium. A full description, illustrations and a phylogenetic tree showing the position of R. endophyticum are provided.

Four new species of Aleurodiscus sensu lato with echinulate basidiospores are described from East Asia: A.alpinus, A.pinicola, A.senticosus, and A.sichuanensis. Aleurodiscusalpinus is from northwest Yunnan of China where it occurs on Rhododendron in montane habitats. Aleurodiscuspinicola occurs on Pinus in montane settings in Taiwan and northwest Yunnan. Aleurodiscussenticosus is from subtropical Taiwan, where it occurs on angiosperms. Aleurodiscussichuanensis is reported from southwest China on angiosperms in montane environments. Phylogenetic relationships of these four new species were inferred from analyses of a combined dataset consisting of three genetic markers, viz. 28S, nuc rDNA ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 (ITS), and a portion of the translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene, TEF1.

A new species, Cantharellus albus, was collected from southwestern China and described with both morphological and molecular characters. It differs from other species of Cantharellus by its smooth white pileus, white hymenophore, and white stipe, the latter turning yellow after bruising. The phylogenetic tree inferred from the combined dataset of three DNA fragments, namely large subunit ribosomal RNA gene (LSU), RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (rpb2), and translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene (tef1), indicated that the new species is distinct from other species of Cantharellus and is a member of sect. Flavobrunnei within the subgenus Parvocantharellus.

We present a workflow for efficient barcoding of myxomycete fructifications, which (i) requires less than 1000 spores, (ii) allows to collect spores with only a needle, (iii) works without any commercial kits, and (iv) is optimized for the use of 96-well PCR plates throughout the process. Specimens of 291 dark-spored nivicolous myxomycetes and 121 bright-spored members of the Trichiaceae were sequenced for the barcode marker 18S rDNA (SSU) with a low rate of failure and no detectable cross-contamination. Crude DNA extracts can be stored for further analyses: the elongation factor 1 alpha gene (EF1A), a single-copy marker, was successfully amplified after four weeks of storage.As such our procedure will allow a time- and cost-efficient barcoding of large series of specimens.

Arthrinium is a widely distributed genus occurring on various hosts and substrates. Members of Arthrinium were distinguished based on the phylogeny of combined internal transcribed spacers (ITS), translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene (tef1), and beta-tubulin gene (tub2). In the present study, a specimen of obvious stromata on Setaria viridis was collected in Beijing Forestry University. Identification based on characters of sexual morph on Setaria viridis culms, asexual morph from manual media, and phylogeny indicated that it is different from any known species. Hence, we proposed a new species for this taxon named Arthrinium setariae. Arthrinium setariae has much larger conidia than its phylogenetically close species, A. jiangxiense, and represented the first record of Arthrinium inhabiting the host genus, Setaria.
