Abstract Counterbalance trucks are machines in widespread use in every industrial sector. Unlike cars, they are not designed with suspension systems. Consequently, they are considered to be high vibrating vehicles. Nevertheless, like suspension seats, tires can be selected as suspension parts. This paper presents a new numerical model for the analysis of the vibratory behavior of counterbalance truck tires. This model was intended to be a part of a fork lift truck model, including axles, chassis, and cabin. All the results reported here show a close agreement between measurements and numerical simulations. Thus, it can predict the vibration emission values at the driving position and is used to compare the efficiency of solid tires with pneumatic tires in terms of transmitted vibration levels.

Abstract Fundamentals of composite material technology are applied to the investigation of multi-ply cord-reinforced rubber systems as used in pneumatic tires. The stiffness parameters of such multi-ply systems are determined through the use of the elastic properties of the constituent cord and rubber components. The effects of coupling between the bending and stretching modes of deformation are discussed along with the limitations of present composite material technology as applied to soft rubbery systems. The predicted stiffness parameters are related to tread wear, obstacle envelopment, vibration, and stress analysis of tires.

Abstract An idealized model is proposed for heating of a pneumatic tire. A solution is obtained for the temperature rise of such a model. Using known thermal properties of rubber and known heat transfer coefficients, the time to reach thermal equilibrium is estimated.

The basic data on the volume of production of pneumatic tires in the world and in Ukraine are presented. The need to improve the ways of handling pneumatic tires that have lost their con-sumer properties (worn out tires as a result of their intended use and tires rejected as a result of passing quality control during their manufacture) is shown as one of the most dangerous for the environment and promising in terms of using their properties. A detailed classification of methods for handling worn out and defective tires is proposed and a critical analysis of each of them is given. Particular attention is paid to the methods of utilization of tires, in particular, recycling, which makes it possible to efficiently use the secondary raw materials obtained from tires directly for their intended purpose. The features of physical, physicochemical and chemical processing methods, in particular combustion, gasification, pyrolysis of tires and their frag-ments, as well as the prospects for their decomposition under the influence of environmental factors, in particular microorganisms, are also considered. The main ways of solving the prob-lem of tires that have lost their consumer properties in Ukraine are proposed. Bibl. 88, Fig. 2.
