Because new product development (NPD) teams are engaged in knowledge creation, NPD management should emphasize cognitive team processes rather than purely social processes. Using the notions of tacit knowledge and distributed cognition as a basis, the authors propose that the T-shaped skills, shared mental models, and NPD routines of team members, as well as the A-shaped skills of the team leader, are key design variables when creating NPD teams. The authors propose that trust in team orientation, trust in technical competence, information redundancy, and rich personal interaction are important process variables for the effective and efficient creation of new knowledge.

HLA-based collaborative simulation is an effective way to integrate different disciplinary models together for the design and development of complex product. In this paper, the HLA-enabling method based on HLA agent model is proposed to make models created through commercial software compatible with HLA standard. Next, a prototype system for forging manipulator system based on such HLA-enabling method is developed accordingly, where an approach of developing ABAQUS engine agent is proposed, which solves the difficulty of wrapping ABAQUS software. Finally, a case study on forging and manipulating process is conducted and verifies the high fidelity and effectiveness of our collaborative simulation technology.

Facing the characteristics of complex product, lead service-oriented thought into the development of complex products, and bring out the method of service-oriented complex product development. The service-oriented complex product development system is researched, and its construction is given out. The characteristics of development resource of service-oriented complex product are summarized; the conception of service-oriented complex product development (SOCPD) is given out, combined with the characteristics of complex product development, SOA, ESB are studied. The net-shaped organization of complex product development is demonstrated。The description of the development process of service-oriented complex product is provided, and the service chain of complex product is expounded.
