<p>We present a simple procedure to make an augmented reality app to visualize any 3D chemical model. The molecular structure may be based on data from crystallographic data or from computer modelling. This guide is made in such a way, that no programming skills are needed and the procedure uses free software and is a way to visualize 3D structures that are normally difficult to comprehend in the 2D space of paper. The process can be applied to make 3D representation of any 2D object, and we envisage the app to be useful when visualizing simple stereochemical problems, when presenting a complex 3D structure on a poster presentation or even in audio-visual presentations. The method works for all molecules including small molecules, supramolecular structures, MOFs and biomacromolecules.</p>

Mobile Augmented Reality (MAR) Technology in combination with Interactive Storytelling (IS) enables the design of new kinds of technology enhanced learning and entertainment applications. The existing pedagogical research as well as the available Interactive Storytelling MAR (ISMAR) Serious Games are rather limited. This is mainly because of the difficulties of MAR applications development and the complexity of IS authoring. The paper works on the direction to improve this situation exploring the combination of a) rapid prototype development methodology based on MAR authoring tools and b) the definition of IS genres which could serve as templates and guide the ISMAR design. In the paper, key concepts are presented, existing successful examples of MAR Serious Games are analyzed in order to extract their narration genre features, available tools for MAR rapid authoring are introduced, and afterwards the design, development and first evaluation of a prototype ISMAR Serious Game is presented. The paper contributes to the bridging of learning design, IS, and AR technology research communities and facilitates feature interdisciplinary research.

Cultural heritage (CH) tells us about our roots, and therefore, constitutes a rich value for the society. Its conservation, dissemination, and understanding are of utmost importance. In order to preserve CH for the upcoming generations, it needs to be documented, a process that nowadays is done digitally. Current trends involve a set of technologies (cameras, scanners, etc.) for the shape and radiometric acquisition of assets. Also, intangible CH can be digitally documented in a variety of forms. Having such assets virtualized, a proper dissemination channel is of relevance, and recently, new technologies that make use of interaction paradigms have emerged. Among them, in this chapter, the authors focus their attention in the technologies of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and serious games (SGs). They aim to explore these technologies in order to show their benefits in the dissemination and understanding of CH. Though the work involving them is not trivial, and usually a multidisciplinary team is required, the benefits for CH make them worth it.

The following chapter will address the use of gamification (specifically serious games), as well as its results and conditions of use, as an assessment and intervention tool for people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia diagnosis. These games are effective for cognitive skills, such as attention, memory, executive functions, and speed processing. Besides this, physical (related to motor coordination and movement), social, psychological, and emotional (related to motivation, anxiety, depression, and stress) skills can be improved by serious games. It will be considered the contexts of the use of different games, such as Episodix, Panoramix, and some other games that are applied as serious games, like exergames. Besides, it will be also referred the different platforms associated with these games, such as mobile applications, videogames, virtual reality, and augmented reality.

Combining mobile technologies with Augmented Reality (AR) has recently enabled the ubiquity of AR technologies in our everyday life. We believe that the use of augmented reality will change significantly the teaching activities by enabling the addition of supplementary information that is seen on a mobile device. This chapter presents the most popular augmented reality applications and we select AR eco-systems to be used in daily teaching activities which are user friendly, do not require programming skills and are free. Different augmented reality technologies are explored in this chapter. It is presented the creation of two novel augmented reality books. One developed with teachers and students. Another book that was developed for increasing the interest of reading for children that is being used by storytellers. Several examples are also presented that are used in educational activities, from kindergarten, elementary, secondary schools and university, to improve reading, comprehension, learning of music and better understand the drawing of orthographic views.
