This study aims to determine the management of digital archives at the Syar'iyah Court Office of East Aceh Regency, Indonesia, as well as finding obstacles encountered in their implementation. This research is a qualitative analysis where the subjects of this research were officers who managed digital archives at the Syar'iyah Court office. The data collection techniques employed were interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the management of digital archives at the Syar'iyah Court Office has not been implemented optimally due to three conditions, namely: 1) The creation of digital archives is hampered due to frequent power outages in East Aceh and Sarana districts which are less supportive, and lack of resources. employees who understand digital archiving issues; 2) The process of borrowing archives carried out at the Syar'iyah Court Office has not been going well because it has not used archive lending procedures such as requesting archives, searching, retrieval of archives, recording, controlling, and storing again, to prevent loss of records; 3) Archive rediscovery still takes quite a long time, ranging from 20 to 30 minutes. The management of digital archives at the Office of the Syar'iyah Idi Court of East Aceh Regency should be improved by proposing additional archiving facilities, namely the latest model scan tool and additional employees who handle digital archive issues.

What happens to history when the basis of its sources and evidence becomes increasingly digital? Similarly, what happens to history when it’s archives become digital? Given how the very form of archives as institution is anchored in the management of paper documents, what does it even mean to have a “digital archive”? This essay is an attempt to identify and discuss issues in the evidentiary basis of history that arise as the materials and systems that manage those materials become digital. In looking at different kinds of sources and archives I work to suggest practical advice on the kinds of issues and questions one should ask when working to interpret, to find out what one can say, based on digital sources and digital archives.

The digital archive which is the object of this research is the archive of Sultan Syarif Qasim II, who ruled in the period 1915-1946. The entire archive numbered approximately 60 thousand, and most of the archive has been restored and digitized. At present, all existing digital archives have not yet been processed and completely identified. Of these, there are 3000 new archives that are allowed to be accessed and processed by researchers. The purpose of this study is to classify the Siak Istana digital archive and create a database in the form of a Siak Istana digital archive repository. The method used in this study is the observatory method to obtain data in the form of digital archives. The research was carried out at the Siak Archive District Library and Archives Service. The results of his research, from a sample of 3000 digital archives, 149 archives were successfully processed by researchers. For repository applications, researchers use the SETIADI repository application.

The salary archive used in this study is a digital archive owned by the Siak Regency Library and Archives Office. The archive is a legacy of Sultan Syarif Kasim II's government (1915-1945). There are 3000 archives available. At present, there are not many writings that reveal the contents of this historical value archive, especially those relating to staffing, whereas in this historical archive there is a description of the sultan's policies in the welfare of his people. The purpose of this research is to identify and provide archival description relating to employee salaries. The method applied in this study is qualitative with a descriptive approach. The results showed that of the 3000 digital archives, 280 of them contained salary information for 100 employees. The identified file illustrates 3 things, namely the monitoring of the Colonial Government which was shown in the use of two languages in the archive, namely Malay and Dutch; The government sistem is centralized, because direct employment is responsible to the Sultan; The Sultan appreciates the ability and service of his employees, this is reflected in the difference in salary received by each employee based on his tenure.

Quality management is an essential part in creating a trustworthy digital archive. The German network of expertise in Digital long-term preservation (nestor), in cooperation with the German Institute for Standards (DIN), has undertaken a small study to analyse systematically the relevance and usage of quality management standards for long-term preservation and to filter out the specific standardisation need for digital archives. This paper summarises the results of the study. It gives an overview on the differences in understanding the task “quality management” within different organisations and how they carry out appropriate measures, such as documentation, transparency, adequacy, and measureability in order to demonstrate the trustworthiness of their digital archive.

Using semantic web technologies is becoming an efficient way to overcome metadata storage and data integration problems in digital archives, thus enhancing the accuracy of the search process and leading to the retrieval of more relevant results. In this paper, the results of the implementation of the semantic layer of the Józef Piłsudski Institute of America digital archive are presented. In order to represent and integrate data about the archival collections housed by the institute, the authors developed arkivo, an ontology that accommodates the archival description of records but also provides a reference schema for publishing linked data. The authors describe the application of arkivo to the digitized archival collections of the institute, with emphasis on how these resources have been linked to external datasets in the linked data cloud. They also show the results of an experiment focused on the query answering task involving a state-of-the-art triple store system. The dataset related to the Piłsudski Institute archival collections has been made available for ontology benchmarking purposes.

The Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland (RAI) is a scholarly association dedicated to the study of anthropology. It has an extensive collection of archival and manuscript materials on this topic. John Wiley & Sons, Inc. has partnered with RAI to create this Wiley Digital Archive collection of their content. Wiley has digitized everything at RAI that they possibly could, save those items that are unavailable for reasons of privacy, copyright, or sensitivity. RAI internal papers and correspondence in the database generally go back to 1967, though some materials are older than that. It offers tens of thousands of manuscripts and photographs, and over one hundred maps. This database provides a number of searching and browsing options that can be used to locate its various documents and images. Although both options can be used effectively and are generally understandable, each has its idiosyncrasies that might confuse or frustrate users. The type, quality, and age of documents and images in this database vary considerably. These include, but are not limited to, notes, papers, and handwritten letters. Some of these can be difficult to read. However, this is not an uncommon problem with primary documents, like those found in this database.Pricing for this database can vary substantially, and depends on FTE and institution type. For certain institutions, with an FTE of 3,000 or less, pricing is relatively economical, while for those with higher FTEs it grows increasingly expensive, and may ultimately prove unaffordable for some. While the quality and quantity of this database’s content is relatively high, it will generally not be useful to students looking for introductory materials on anthropology and related disciplines. Instead, it will be far more valuable to those doing more in-depth research in these areas, including those hoping to augment research already done using other resources. The licensing agreement for this database is in most ways a standard one, but it’s vague on the question of fees, so purchasers should clarify this issue with the vendor before proceeding.
