This paper provides new evidence on the influence of macroeconomic environment and institutional quality on stock market development, using data from 14 MENA countries over the period of 1990-2007. Using both panel data and instrumental variable techniques, we found that income level, saving rate, stock market liquidity, and interest rate influence stock market development with the expected theoretical signs. Our results also showed that the banking and the stock market sectors are complementary instead of being substitutes. We found that the institutional environment as captured by a composite policy risk index does not appear to be a driving force for the stock market capitalization in the region. Our last results are robust to different specifications and empirical techniques.

Since financial system development is a necessary condition of the long-run economic growth, in this paper we address the question about the factors that may drive in particular the development of stock market segment. We propose a set of potential determinants and then empirically verify their importance, employing panel data methodology. We focus our attention on the thirteen CEE states and look for the conclusions that may be specific for transition economies in this region. Finally, we formulate the finding that large budget deficitshave affected significantly and adversely the CEE countries’ stock markets growth.p>

The newly elected government of the Pakistan considered corruption as a main hurdle in long-term development of the country on one hand. On the other hand, it is put emphasis on enhancing remittances to maintain Marco-economic stability in Pakistan. Therefore, the aim of this study is to highlight the effects of remittance, quality of governance and financial development in Pakistan for the time 2000 to 2016 using Ordinary Least Square Method (OLS). The aftermaths of the study has shown the positive influence of remittance, quality of governance and financial development on economic development in Pakistan. Conversely, as expected the sign of inflation is negative with in-significant effect. Furthermore, the present study has categorized financial development into banking sector and stock market development to explore their effects separately. For this purpose, two indicators have chosen for banking sector and two for stock market development. Lastly, this paper uses various diagnostic tests to check the various econometric issues in the given models. The results of the diagnostic tests have showed that residual is normally distributed, homoscedastic and absence of serial correlation in all the given models. Moreover, descriptive statistics also shows that variables of present study are normally distributed. In sum, based on the findings this research recommends that by improving the quality of the governance and by increasing the remittances long-term economic growth is possible in Pakistan. In addition, financial development is also an important determinant of growth in Pakistan. Therefore, government focus on eradicating corruption and increasing remittances are the right policies for economy of Pakistan in the long run.

The paper focuses on the influence of trading volume on quality of prediction of stock market development. The main objective of this article is to assess the influence of stock trading volume level on quality of prediction with use of technical analysis. The research was applied on stocks included in the S & P 500 index. Based on average daily trading volume, three aggregate indexes were constructed. The dynamics of index return volatility was modeled by GARCH-class models. GARCH(1,1), GJR and EGARCH models were estimated for each time series. The in-sample evidence indicated that the return volatility of the indexes can be characterized by significant persistence and asymmetric effects. The best estimate of each model was produced for the index of stocks with the highest average trading volume. However the result could differ based on the observed period, the volatility structure of the examined data supports the idea that influential investors respond to various shocks in the market primarily by closing or opening their largest position. The importance of the level of trading volume for the prediction of financial time series development was shown in the paper. This finding could help generate such volatility structure of time series which would allow to explain development of the time series by various models with better results.

Results appear to confirm the theory that stock market liquidity impacts and influences the ability of the market to fully reflect information. The impact of the sizes and development of capital markets on users of financial information will also be considered in this chapter – as well as other factors which could have a possible impact on the value relevance of accounting information. So will the issue of Shadow Banking and recent financial regulatory reforms which embrace the Dodd Frank legislation – as well as Liikannen, Vickers, Volcker rules and reports.
