AbstractSmart Home technologies have the potential to increase the quality of life, home security and facilitate elderly care. Therefore, they require access to a plethora of data about the users’ homes and private lives. Resulting security and privacy concerns form a relevant barrier to adopting this promising technology. Aiming to support end users’ informed decision-making through addressing the concerns we first conducted semi-structured interviews with 42 potential and little-experienced Smart Home users. Their diverse concerns were clustered into four themes that center around attacks on Smart Home data and devices, the perceived loss of control, the trade-off between functionality and security, and user-centric concerns as compared to concerns on a societal level. Second, we discuss measures to address the four themes from an interdisciplinary perspective. The paper concludes with recommendations for addressing user concerns and for supporting developers in designing user-centered Smart Home technologies.

Smart Home System bertujuan memaksimalkan pengawasan, pemantauan, keamanan dan sebagainya. sistem ini terintegrasi dari telekomunikasi dan sistem pengendali dari mikrokontroller, sehingga  tercipta Internet Of Things. Pada Penelitian ini dilakukan perancangan sistem Smart Home, dengan sistem client-server berbasis NodeMCU ESP8266 v3 dengan user interface Telegram Messenger yang melakukan komunikasi data melalui wireless. Tahapan perancangan terdiri dari perancangan server, interface, serta sistem kendali Smart Home nya. Hasil akhir pengujian tersebut dapat disimpulkan Aplikasi Telegram Messenger sangat cocok untuk pengontrol dan monitoring Smart Home  jarak jauh, berdasarkan Jarak yang diukur dari 1,7 km sampai 151 km area beda wilayah didapatkan delay rata-rata 20,66 detik, Pada pengujian kinerja Quality of Service dalam sistem komunikasi data ini, berdasarakan standarisasi paramater hasil pengujian bekerja dengan sangat baik. Pada  pengujian nilai RSSI indoor didapat bahwa  kekuatan  komunikasi  wireless  lebih  baik  dibanding outdoor, sehingga RSSI nya lebih kuat. Nilai RSSI  yang tertinggi berada pada -28 dBm dan yang terkecil pada -88 dBm. Berdasarkan pengujian terhadap obstacle, dengan karakteristik redaman yang berbeda - beda dari tiap obstacle nya menghasilkan pengaruh terhadap RSSI dari sinyal wirelessnya.  Obstacle RSSI terkuat dihasilkan oleh pintu kayu dengan nilai -33dbm dBm , serta RSSI terkecil pada obstacle 2 bangunan rumah dengan nilai -78 dBm.

Smart home and artificial intelligence technologies are developing rapidly, and various smart home products associated with artificial intelligence (AI) improved the quality of living for occupants. Although some studies discussed the application of artificial intelligence in smart homes, few publications fully considered the integration of literature and products. In this paper, we aim to answer the research questions of “what is the trend of smart home technology and products” and “what is the relationship between literature and products in smart homes with AI”. Literature reviews and product reviews are given to define the functions and roles of artificial intelligence in smart homes. We determined the application status of artificial intelligence in smart home products and how it is utilized in our house so that we could understand how artificial intelligence is used to make smart homes. Furthermore, our results revealed that there is a delay between literature and products, and smart home intelligent interactions will become more and more popular.

Aging-in-place can reduce the progress of dementia syndrome and improve the quality of life of the sufferers and their families. Taking into consideration the fact that numerous neurological research results suggest the use of sound as a stimulus for empowering the memory of the sufferer, an innovative information home support system for people suffering from dementia is proposed. The innovation of the proposed system is found in its application, that is to integrate a home system for assisting with person recognition via a sound-based memory aid service. Furthermore, the system addresses the needs of people suffering from dementia to recognize their familiars and have better interaction and collaboration, without the need for training. The system offers a ubiquitous recognition system, using smart devices like smart-phones or smart-wristbands. When a familiar person is detected in the house, then a sound is reproduced on the smart speakers, in order to stimulate the sufferer’s memory. The system identified all users and reproduced the appropriate sound in 100% of the cases. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first system of its kind for assisting person recognition via sound ever reported in the literature.

Supply with daily consumer goods is a time consuming and quite inefficient task. Furthermore, some people may be dependent on caregivers resulting in additional costs. Hence, it offers opportunities for developing e-commerce solutions in order to enable customers to use otherwise wasted time for replenishment of their private food stocks more efficiently. Although, some digital stores for consumer goods have evolved recently, still only a small part of total sales, especially in food retail, is realized online. Due to inappropriate packaging there still are problems with the quality of fresh products. Also, current solutions for depositing parcels if the customer is absent are not suitable for fresh or cooled goods. Therefore, we show state of the art and developments necessary to establish the logistical integration and thereby enabling automated consumer goods supply in smart home environments. As smart appliances are playing an important role for enabling the automation, our focus is set on such hardware. To demonstrate customer acceptance of smart stocks in their private households, market research has been performed on smart refrigerators in place for every conceivable appliance capable of capturing consumer goods. Our results prove that especially younger generations are very interested in and willing to pay for intelligent appliances.

The residential electricity consumption tends to expand further and, consequently, stimulates the development of technological tools that allow to establish greater control of energy consumption. Embedded technology systems play an important role in the efficiency of a smart home by providing to users ways to optimize environment management. The implementation of technologies in the residential environment offer to residents a better quality of life and reduce expenses. Therefore, this paper proposes the development of smart electrical outlets able to identify the apparatus connected to them and make available to the user the detailed consumption of each device that was used through a database.
