Studies in our laboratory are involved in evaluating the structural and functional organization of the mammalian cell nucleus. Since several major classes (U1, U2, U4/U6, U5) of small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particles (snRNPs) play a crucial role in the processing of pre-mRNA molecules, we have been interested in the localization of these particles within the cell nucleus. Using pre-embedding immunoperoxidase labeling combined with 3-dimensional reconstruction, we have recently shown that nuclear regions enriched in snRNPs form a reticular network within the nucleoplasm which extends between the nucleolar surface and the nuclear envelope. In the present study we were inte rested in extending these nuclear localizations using cell preparation techniques which avoid slow penetration of fixatives, chemical crosslinking of potential antigens and solvent extraction. CHOC 400 cells were cryofixed using a CF 100 ultra rapid cooling device (LifeCell Corp.). After cryofixation cells were molecular distillation dried, vapor osmicated, in filtra ted in 100% Spurr resin in vacuo and polymerized in molds a t 60°C. Using this procedure we were able to evaluate the distribution of snRNPs in resin embedded cells which had not been chemically fixed, incubated in cryoprotectants or extracted with solvents.

Plants are being used in medicine and treatment of diseases from years in the evolution. During the development of science, investigations to establish eh scientific proof and validation for the activities and mechanism of herbs to treat diseases. Capsicum annuum has anti-cancer properties, analgesic properties, anti lithogenic and thermogenic properties. It is used to alter the gastrointestinal function and boost metabolism. Many formulations are enriched with capsaicin which is a crucial ingredient in Capsicum to exhibit its weight loss properties. Based on the anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties of the plant and taking into consideration, the current research will focus on the investigation and comparison of the antipyretic activity of Capsicum in fruits and leaves. Results show that the leaves have similar chemical constituents that had antipyretic potential compared to the fruits. Overall, the Capsicum showed a comparatively same activity with the standard drug, paracetamol.

<em>Konsumsi cabai rawit terus meningkat namun produktivitasnya masih rendah, sehingga diperlukan pemuliaan yang mengarah pada perbaikan daya hasil. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keragaman genetik, korelasi antar karakter, heritabilitas arti luas, dan nilai kemajuan seleksi populasi F3 cabai rawit. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Leuwikopo, IPB, Dramaga, Bogor dan Laboratorium Genetika dan Pemuliaan Tanaman, Departemen Agronomi dan Hortikultura, IPB. Percobaan menggunakan 5 genotipe tetua dan 6 genotipe F3 cabai rawit, dengan genotipe tetua yang diulang sebanyak 3 ulangan dan genotipe F3 tanpa ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakter bobot buah per tanaman dan jumlah buah per tanaman memiliki keragaman genetik luas pada semua genotipe. Semua karakter pengamatan berkorelasi positif terhadap daya hasil kecuali umur berbunga dan umur panen. Nilai heritabilitas arti luas dengan kriteria tinggi terdapat pada karakter bobot buah per tanaman, bobot per buah, dan panjang buah. Hasil seleksi indeks yang dilakukan menunjukkan kemajuan seleksi yang besar pada karakter bobot buah per tanaman dan jumlah buah per tanaman.</em>

<p class="Default"><strong>INTRODUÇÃO</strong>: O pimentão verde é um fruto colhido antes de completar a maturação. A aceitação dessa hortaliça é influenciada pelo cor e sabor característico, uma vez que esses atributos indicam qualidade nos frutos. Para se obter pimentões verdes de qualidade é necessário que a colheita seja eficiente, visto que a maturidade é um fator importante para determinar o armazenamento e a comercialização. Portanto, o conhecimento sobre a hidrólise do amido e conversão de açúcares auxiliam durante o controle dos processos degradativos que geram perdas desses frutos após a colheita. <strong>OBJETIVOS</strong>: Objetivou-se determinar os teores de açúcares em pimentões verdes comercializados na cidade de Pombal, PB. <strong>MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS</strong>: O experimento foi conduzido no Laboratório de Química, Bioquímica e Análise de Alimentos, do Centro de Ciências e Tecnologia Agroalimentar, da Universidade Federal de Campina Grande, Campus Pombal. Para realização das análises os pimentões foram selecionados, lavados em agua corrente, triturados separadamente em liquidificador e transferidos para recipientes plásticos. Os parâmetros avaliados foram: sólidos solúveis, açúcares totais, açúcares redutores e não redutores. Após as análises foi determinado coeficiente de correlação de Pearson entre as características estudadas. <strong>RESULTADOS E DISCUSSÃO: </strong>Os teores de sólidos solúveis foram de 4,9%, comportamento esperado já que o fruto se encontra no estádio verde. Vale destacar que esse resultado corresponde a todos os sólidos presentes na polpa do fruto. O açúcar total foi de 3,1 g 100 g<sup>-1</sup> indicando que a concentração de açúcar em frutos de pimentões imaturos é menor. O açúcar não redutor foi de 1,0 g 100 g<sup>-1</sup>, sendo esse valor proporcional a reserva energética do fruto. O teor de açúcares redutor encontrado foi de 2,1 g 100 g<sup>-1</sup>, resultado previsto uma vez que esses compostos foram acumulados para serem convertidos em açúcares de baixo peso molecular durante a maturação. As variáveis estudadas apresentaram correlação significativa, com uma forte correlação positiva entre os sólidos solúveis e açúcares não redutores, como também entre os açúcares totais e açúcares redutores, informando que os açúcares presentes no pimentão verde são interligados. <strong>CONCLUSÃO</strong>: Os teores de sólidos solúveis, açúcares totais, açúcares redutores e açúcares não redutores nos pimentões comercializados foram baixos, indicando que os frutos foram colhidos no estádio de maturação adequado para a armazenamento e distribuição. <em></em></p>
