AbstractWe present results of the propagation of high-energy cosmic rays (CRs) and their secondaries in the intracluster medium (ICM). To this end, we employ three-dimensional cosmological magnetohydrodynamical simulations of the turbulent intergalactic medium to explore the propagation of CRs with energies between 1014 and 1019 eV. We study the interaction of test particles with this environment considering all relevant electromagnetic, photohadronic, photonuclear, and hadronuclear processes. Finally, we discuss the consequences of the confinement of high-energy CRs in clusters for the production of gamma rays and neutrinos.

Gamma-ray bursts are capable of accelerating cosmic rays up to GZK energies Ep ~ 1020 eV, which can lead to a flux at Earth comparable to that observed by large EAS arrays such as Auger. The semi-relativistic outflows inferred in GRB-related hypernovae are also likely sources of somewhat lower energy cosmic rays. Leptonic processes, such as synchrotron and inverse Compton, as well as hadronic processes, can lead to GeV-TeV gamma-rays measurable by GLAST, AGILE, or ACTs, providing useful probes of the burst physics and model parameters. Photo-meson interactions also produce neutrinos at energies ranging from sub-TeV to EeV, which will be probed with forthcoming experiments such as IceCube, ANITA and KM3NeT. This would provide information about the fundamental interaction physics, the acceleration mechanism, the nature of the sources and their environment.

The direct detection of annihilation products in cosmic rays offers an alternative way to search for supersymmetric dark matter particles candidates. The study of the spectrum of gamma-rays, antiprotons and positrons offers good possibilities to perform this search in a significant portion of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model parameters space. In particular the EGRET team have seen a convincing signal for a strong excess of emission from the galactic center that have not easily explanation with standard processes. We will review the achievable limits with the experiment GLAST taking into accounts the LEP results and we will compare this method with the antiproton and positrons experiments, the direct underground detection and with future experiments at LHC.
