Knowledge is created and learned by academicians for the purpose of further theory development. Academician’role in disseminating knowldege is very important. To reach a convergent understanding both theory and practice, it’s a need of flexibility between methodology and sources of data so that it stimulates actionable insight.One of the problems between theory and practice differencesis customers focus.For practicians customer focus raised three foundamentals questions: can the knowledge phylosophy reduce cost?. Can the knowledge phylosophy increse sales?, and can the knowledge phylosophy increase the profit?. This paper discuss the development of marketing knowledge based on the marketing practice to bridge the gap between academicians and practicians. Issues being discussed in this paper are the meaning of marketing knowledge from practician perspective, the theory of marketing in practician’s world, actionable research as the bridge of knowledge development, and the difference perspective between academician and parctician.

Most Canadian engineering students take a computing course in their first year that introduces them to digital computation. The Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board does not specify the language(s) that can or should be used for instruction. As a result, a variety of languages are used across Canada. This study examines which languages are used in degree-granting institutions, currently and in the recent past. It also examines why institutions have chosen the languages that they currently use. In addition to the language used in instruction, the types and hours of instruction are also analyzed. Methods of instruction and evaluation are compared, as well as the pedagogical philosophies of the different programs with respect to introductory computing. Finally, a comparison of the expected value of this course to graduates is also presented. We found a more diverse landscape for introductory computing courses than anticipated, in most respects. The guiding ethos at most institutions is skill and knowledge development, especially around problem solving in an engineering context. The methods to achieve this are quite varied, and so are the languages employed in such courses. Most programs currently use C/C++, Matlab, VB and/or Python.

This study provides experimental evidence related to the management of audit task knowledge. Specifically, the research explores whether a certain type of task knowledge, loan credit review knowledge, develops differently for in-charge auditors working in different industry specializations. Since auditors are often asked to choose an industry specialization at the in-charge level, understanding whether certain industries provide the opportunity for differential knowledge development is important (Libby and Frederick 1990), especially if such knowledge can be transferred to aid performance in tasks completed in several other industries. As such, the study explores whether the task knowledge under investigation can be transferred across both industry and task contexts to aid performance in the going concern judgment, a task that is required to be completed in all industries. An experiment was administered to 60 in-charge auditors from one of the then Big 6 firms, with 32 participants specializing in the financial services industry and 28 in manufacturing. Importantly, financial services auditors have extensive experience evaluating the collectibility of loans and the underlying financial condition of borrowers; this knowledge is expected to also be valuable in assessing the going concern of any client. Participants evaluated the going concern status of four cases of actual troubled clients from two industry settings: manufacturing and casino gambling. The findings support the transferability of knowledge across task and industry contexts. This result is important because it is the first study in the audit literature to demonstrate that a specific type of task knowledge can be transferred across both task and industry contexts (Be´dard and Chi 1993). In so doing, the results provide an important theoretical foundation for audit researchers and practitioners regarding the conditions for the transfer and dissemination of audit knowledge throughout a firm.

In this introduction, we first review the lessons learned in development economics about the ability of randomized control trials to analyse what Duflo refers to as the “plumbing problems” of policy implementation, as opposed to “engineering problems” of policy design. We then examine the papers published within this special issue from a plumbing-based perspective to highlight the benefits of the co-creation of knowledge in corporate sustainability through a field-based experimental agenda. We finally propose that field-based experiments can radically influence the future development of our (and related) fields of inquiry in three ways: (1) focusing on the implementation processes of sustainability strategies, (2) shifting attention from the analysis of past events to the design of future actions, and (3) yielding our role as sole owners of the knowledge development process and agreeing to shared ownership with the organizations we study.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to conceptualise millennial cultural consumers (MCCs) to bring together strands of consumer theory with branding theory to consider how to attract and retain younger audiences in arts organisations. Within that the authors single out for attention how “brand community” theory might apply to MCCs. Design/methodology/approach – This paper is a conceptual paper that reviews and comments on concepts relevant to helping arts organisations develop strategies to attract and retain younger consumers in their audiences. Findings – Thoughtful conceptual insights and four research propositions for further work by academics and/or practitioners on Millennials and the art and culture world are derived from this review and commentary. Managerial implications are also drawn out. Originality/value – This paper contributes to the knowledge development of such concepts as value and brand communities. It also provides an explanation of these concepts conncecting academic thought on value with pressing management challenges for arts organisations, suggesting ways to apply brand community thinking to innovatiely conceptualised MCCs.
