This chapter reviews literature investigating the complex relationships between stress and personality disorders. Various forms of early life adversity, particularly experiences of abuse and neglect, portend the development of personality disorders and maladaptive personality traits later in life. Much of this association appears to be causal (i.e., independent of genetic risk). A comparatively much smaller literature suggests that acute stressful events later in development show complex interrelations with personality disorders. These connections appear to be bidirectional, such that not only does stress influence the development of personality, but personality also influences stress exposure. Additionally, personality traits influence the way in which individuals respond to stressors, both psychologically and physiologically. Our review concludes by underlining enduring methodological problems and conceptual issues that await resolution in future empirical work.

Under coastal or marine conditions, chloride erosion is the major accelerating factor of reinforcement corrosion. Therefore, it is of vital importance to investigate the chloride diffusion model. Research reveals that the concrete stress state has great influence on chloride diffusion; therefore a stress influence coefficient was incorporated in chloride diffusion coefficient model by many researchers. By referring to the experimental data from eight different researchers, the law between stress influence coefficient and concrete stress ratio is studied in detail, and equations relating the stress influence coefficient with the concrete stress ratio are established. Compared with three typical existing groups of equations, it is found that the proposed equations give the most accurate estim.ation of the stress influence coefficient. Hence, the proposed equations can be adopted to improve the valuation of chloride diffusion coefficient, and a modified chloride diffusion model is put forward. Three groups of experimental data are used to validate the modified chloride diffusion model, which is shown to be reasonable and having high prediction accuracy.


We know the mechanical properties of silicon. However, little is known about the mechanical properties of silicon solar cells. Modeling is widely used in the study of solar cells. This article discusses in detail the effect of mechanical stress on solar cells. To do this, a model of the solar cell was created and simulated at Comsol Multiphysics. The results were presented visually and graphically. The results were tested for relevance and accuracy

In previous papers, practical limits on the maximum applied load for standard ASME B16.5 and B16.47 carbon steel, weld neck pipe flanges were examined. A new code equation for the tangential (hoop) stress at the small end of the hub for a weld neck flange was developed to facilitate calculation of the limits using elastic analysis. The results were verified against elastic-plastic Finite Element Analysis (FEA). In this paper, the work is extended to include other flange configurations, including loose ring flanges, slip-on flanges and flat plate flanges. This paper is a continuation of the papers presented during PVP 2006 and PVP 2007 (Brown [1, 2]) and it extends the scope of the proposed methodology for determining flange stress limits in determining the maximum allowable bolt load for any given flange size and configuration.
