This paper presents an implementation of Eurocode load cases for discrete global optimization algorithm for planar structures based on the principles of finite element methods and genetic algorithms. The final optimal design is obtained using IPE sections chosen as feasible by the algorithm, from the available steel sections from industry. The algorithm is tested on an asymmetric planar steel frame with promising results.

In order to solve the cracking and poor reliability problems of motor box of Horizontal Roadheader, the static structural FEA (Finite Element Analysis) of cutting arm & motor box of the EBH160 Horizontal Roadheader was conducted, and the stress and strain contours of FEA were obtained. By comparing the calculated results, the safety factor of cutting arm & motor box was 1.36, which provides a reference for the optimal design of cutting arm & motor box.

Two important parameters of torispherical head that are (interior radius of spherical crown area) and r (interior radius of transition corner) have been optimized by the module of the large general-purpose finite-element software ANSYS, targeting the strength and stability of the head. This paper provides an optimized torispherical head, which improves the stability of the edge of the head with acceptable strength of the head. The procedure is generally applicable as a design tool for optimal design.

The bracket is used to attach the gondola, which is an important part of the aircraft power plant. The gondola is constantly subjected to heavy loads when starting the engine, in flight, takeoff and landing. Therefore, the strength of the brackets of its attachment is very important. The geometric 3D model was built in SOLIDWORKS and imported for further calculations in ANSYS. A grid of tetraidal elements was created by the program. Thanks to the obtained FE (finite element) grid, we make the calculation of the stress strain state. Comments are provided on changes in the geometric and mass parameters of the bracket, based on the results of calculations.
