Abstract System requirements and system design for integrating a production rule program and a computer aided design system are presented. An implementation using a commercially available graphics modeling system is described. A “suggestive mode” interface is programmed as an example with application to design for automated assembly. Initial use of the implementation indicates that encoding production rules is more difficult than with conventional text-only knowledge-based systems, but that this system is a more effective way to use artificial intelligence techniques in design.

Based on integration design method for semi-armor-piercing warhead, the design and implementation of CAD system are illuminated. The whole frame of CAD system is established. The function of integration design system is analyzed by IDEF0 method, and the functional modules are established. System software structure is founded based on system functional characteristic. Based on the technique of database and visualization, the key techniques of system implementation are analyzed in detail, which include database, visualization, etc. Finally, an application example of CAD system is given.

Hot plastic profile produced by extrusion die is cooled down and calibrated by calibrator. Therefore, the cooling and calibrating ability of the calibrator directly influence the quality and output of the profile. The key is to design the distribution of cooling channels in calibrator. By analyzing the heat transfer process during cooling in calibrator, the cooling process of plastic profile in calibrator is simulated. Based on the finite element analysis results, the optimization objective is established to obtain the cooling efficiency and uniformity of each node in the profile cross sections of the calibrators exit and finish the optimization design of the cooling channels positions.

Software development was conducted with Visual C++ based on Pro/ENGINEER system and its secondary development tool Pro/TOOLKIT, by taking the special-shaped products as research objects, thus to realize the cushion packaging CAD system integrating the product information data processing, cushion design calculation, corrugated case design calculation. The overall composition, main functional modules of cushion packaging CAD system, as well as the system design and implementation were illustrated.
