The fluorescence quenching of 2-aminopurine and 2-phenylindole, acting a sensitizers, by 2- aminobenzophenon, acting as acceptor, in viscous solvents (Glycerol + 5% methanol) and its influence on the emission anisotropy (EA) of the sensitizer were investigated. It was found that the relation η/η0 - τ/τ0 (η/η0 the relative quantum yield and τ/τ0 the relative mean lifetime of the excited sensitizer) in this case is good fulfiled. The behaviour of the EA in the investigated acceptor concentration range is discussed.

Observations have been made of the concentration dependence of the fluorescence spectra of solutions of 1:2-benzanthracene and fifteen of its hydrocarbon derivatives. All of the compounds, except the 9,10-dim ethyl derivative, exhibit dim er emission at higher concentrations. The lower excited states, 1 L b and 1 L a , satisfy Förster’s conditions for fluorescent dim er formation. The factors determining the relative quantum yield of excimer fluorescence are discussed. The different types of crystal fluorescence spectra shown by the compounds are explained in terms of excimer formation in the crystal lattice.

The fluorescence spectra and the decay time of emission bands of pure and anthracene doped 2,3 Dimethylnaphthalin single crystals excited by short light pulses were examined for temperatures of 4 to 300 K.On raising the temperature from 40 to 120 K the decay time and the relative quantum yield of 2,3 DN decreases, the emission is shifted by about 150 cm-1 to higher energies and simultanously the energy transfer to the anthracene impurity molecule increases.A model calculation is presented which allows a theoretical interpretation of the experimental results
