In this present study, copper nanoparticles coated on the cotton fabrics was evaluated for the antibacterial property against bacterial strains isolated from post operative patients. In this study, CUNPs synthesized by chemical reduction method and the synthesized nanoparticles characterized by UV spectroscopy, energy dispersive X ray spectroscopy and further characterized for its size by SEM. CUNPs coated on the bleached cotton fabrics by pad dry cure method. Coating of CUNPs to cotton fabric conferred by SEM and FTIR. The coated fabrics were examined in the range of basic physical–mechanical parameters such as the tensile strength, the bursting strength and air permeability.Anti bacterial activity was determined against the clinical isolate of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa by agar diffusion assay. Copper nanoparticles synthesized by chemical reduction was primarly confirmed by the colour change of the reaction mixture from blue to olive green, plasmon absorption maxima at 600 nm and uniform sp

Cotton fabric with excellent antibacterial properties was obtained by treated with polyamide-amine (PAMAM) dendrimers as a carrier and silver nitrate as an antibacterial agent. The antibacterial cotton fabrics were prepared by the methods of one-bath process and two-bath process. Antibacterial activity of cotton fabrics treated by two different methods was good, but the antibacterial durability of cotton fabric treated with two-bath process was better than that treated with one-bath process. After 50 washing cycles, cotton fabric treated with two-bath process still had good antibacterial property and its inhibitory rate to Gram-positive S. aureus and Gram-negative E. coli was over 99 %. It was found that the breaking strength retention of finished cotton fabrics was 85.83 % and the decrease of cotton fabrics’ whiteness index was about 15 %.

Abstract In this study, intumescent flame retardant coating of polyethylenimine/phytic acid (PEI/PA) with gradient structure was constructed on cotton fabric through facile layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly method. The LOI value of coated cotton fabric reached over 40% indicating excellent flame retardancy. Reasonable controlling the LBL assembly process of PEI/PA coating brought less influence to the physical properties of cotton fabrics. And the coated cotton fabric revealed good flame retardant washing durability. Thermogravimetric analysis results of coated cotton fabrics showed that PEI/PA flame retardant coating changed the thermal decomposition process and promoted char formation revealing the obviously condensed phase flame retardant action. SEM images of char residues revealed that PEI/PA flame retardant coating promoted to form the intumescent flame retardant (IFR) char layer showing obvious IFR action. This research provides novel strategy for the development of high-efficiency flame retardant cotton fabric with good durability and physical properties using simple LBL assembly method.
