AbstractBackground and aimExpenditure on adolescents’ health promotion is critical to enhancing quality of life and fundamental for the prosperity of countries. This study tried to investigate the relationships between information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model constructs as predictors of high school student’s health-promoting lifestyle (HPL) in Southwest Iran.MethodsThis cross-sectional descriptive-analytic study was conducted on 400 students in Southwest Iran. Sample size required for this study was obtained using Soper’s structural equation modeling (SEM) calculator. The stratified random sampling method was used in this study. A path analysis was taken to evaluate the HPL main determinants utilizing SEM.ResultsInformation only had a significant indirect relationship with adolescents’ HPL. But, both motivation and behavioral skills constructs had significant direct and indirect relationship with adolescents’ HPL. The behavioral skill construct was the most imperative predictor variable. In general, behavioral skills construct (75%), motivation (66%) and knowledge (50%) constructs had the highest impact on HPL. The IMB model was able to explain 71% of the variance in adolescents’ HPL.ConclusionThe findings of the study showed that the IMB model was appropriate for explaining adolescents’ HPL. It is necessary that actions are taken to improve behavioral skills and promote adolescents’ HPL.

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is one of the complexities of treatment and care for people living with HIV (PLHIV). It is essential to understand the challenges of admitting ART in PLHIV based on the Information Motivation Behavioral skills (IMB) model. This study was conducted using qualitative and directed content analysis on 15 participants. The participants included 10 patients and five health-care providers selected from the behavioral diseases counseling center affiliated with a medical university in southeast of Iran using purposive sampling method. Data were collected through semistructured interviews. Data analysis has led to three main categories—information, motivation, and behavioral skills—and eight subcategories. ART adherence in an Iranian context is like an iceberg that the IMB model can deeply identify underwater and unanticipated motivations and factors that lead to nonadherence. Therefore, it can be useful in designing and developing context-based nonadherence to ART interventions.

Abstract Background: Gestational diabetes is one of the most common metabolic dysfunction in pregnancy and as overweight and obesity are of the major risk factors, this study aimed to determine the effect of Information-Motivation and Behavioral skills (IMB) model-based counseling on preventing gestational diabetes in overweight and obese pregnant women. Methods: A randomised controlled trial (RCT) was conducted involving pregnant women who are overweight (BMI >25 to 29.9 k/gm2) or obese (BMI >30 k/gm2), at the 12 to 16 weeks gestation and recruited from the Prenatal Clinic of Rohani Educational Hospital in Babol medical university, Iran, women in the intervention group will receive a program informed four sessions by the Information-Motivation and Behavioral skills. The control group received routine care. Blood glucose was measured before and 8 weeks after the intervention. Descriptive and inferential statistics including mean, standard deviation, frequency, t-test, chi-square and ANCOVA were used. Results: The prevalence of gestational diabetes was lower in the intervention group than the routine care group (10% and 29.9%, respectively, RR=0.33, CI 95% (0.15- 0.74) p=0.004) as well as mean fasting blood glucose (d=0.28, P=0.07), and glucose tolerance test at the first and second hour (d= 0.41 and d=0.73, respectively, p<0.01). Conclusions: Our data suggest that women that IMB model-based counseling on self-care in early pregnancy in overweight and obese pregnant women can be effective in preventing gestational diabetes.
