Congenital ranula (CR) is a rare tumor. Few cases of prenatal diagnosis (PD) of CR have been reported in the literature and diagnosis usually is beyond 20 weeks of gestation. We report a case of a pregnant patient with 16 weeks of gestation, where ultrasound (US) visualized in her fetus, a cystic tumor protruding in his oral cavity. Basis and complementary studies, including fetal echocardiography, were normal. Serial two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) US studies monitored fetal growth, amniotic fluid, progressive changes in the cystic mass, and maxillary movements. At 38.5 weeks of gestation, a cesarean section was performed. At 17th neonate days old, the neonate was done the simple and complete excision. Early PD of CR is possible. In this case was done as early as at 16 weeks of gestation. This is the first CR reported case with the earliest PD (16 week of gestation). We recommend that during the first trimester US, the oral cavity must be well explored, to rule out tumors.

Background: Mesenteric cysts are exceptional abdominal lesions of childhood. Presentation may vary with broad spectrum of symptoms from asymptomatic mass and nonspecific complaints to an acute abdomen. Objectives of this study were to present a series of patients with mesenteric cysts and to analyze our experience with emphasis on the presentation, management, and outcome.Methods: This observational study included thirteen children were diagnosed and treated for mesenteric cysts. All cases subjected to clinical evaluation, laboratory investigations and radiological studies. The diagnosis was confirmed on laparotomy. Ethics committee approval was obtained. The main data which extracted and analyzed included demographic data, operative finding, postoperative complications and duration of hospital stay. Data were analyzed using SPSS for Windows software and P value of ≤ 0.05 was considered significant.Results: There were 13 patients with mesenteric cyst, 5 girls and 8 boys. The ages ranged from neonate to 8 years. Abdominal mass and pain was the main presenting symptoms. Prenatal diagnosis established in two cases. Laparotomy performed in all cases. Small bowel mesentery is the commonest site. Two patients required urgent surgery. Surgical procedures included cyst excision with or without intestinal resection. Chylolymphatic cyst was documented in 4 cases. Post-operative complications reported in 2 cases.Conclusions: Mesenteric cysts are unusual in children with variable clinical presentation. Complete excision was feasible in nearly all cases, bringing a favorable outcome. The possibility of this disease entity should be considered as the cause of acute abdomen.

Abstract The primary function of the acetabular labrum, like that of the glenoid, is to deepen the socket and improve joint stability. Tears of the acetabular labrum are common in older adults but occur in all age groups and with equal frequency in males and females. The AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (AMA Guides), Fifth Edition, is silent about rating tears, partial or complete excision, or repair of the acetabular labrum. Provocative tests to detect acetabular labrum tears involve hip flexion and rotation; all rely on production of pain in the groin (typically), clicking, and/or locking with passive or active hip motions. Diagnostic tests or procedures rely on x-rays, conventional arthrography, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetic resonance arthrography (MRA), and hip arthroscopy. Hip arthroscopy is the gold standard for diagnosis but is the most invasive and most likely to result in complications, and MRA is about three times more sensitive and accurate in detecting acetabular labral tears than MRI alone. Surgical treatment for acetabular labrum tears usually consists of arthroscopic debridement; results tend to be better in younger patients. In general, an acetabular labral tear, partial labrectomy, or labral repair warrants a rating of 2% lower extremity impairment. Evaluators should avoid double dipping (eg, using both a Diagnosis-related estimates and limited range-of-motion tests).
