Introduction: Discoid meniscus is a structure with altered shape, which causes it to frequently undergo injuries and lesions. Pain, limping, limited range of motion of the knee joint and swelling are characteristic signs of this pathology. Therapeutic possibilities include meniscectomy and saucerisation. Research objective: The study aim was assessment of the therapeutic effectiveness in a patient after saucerisation of discoid meniscus. Material and methods: A 12-year-old female patient after saucerisation of lower left limb lateral discoid meniscus (type I) was subjected to 32-week physical therapy treatment. Testing included determining the range of knee joint flexion and extension movements, as well as measuring the circumference of the lower extremities 15 cm above the patella. The Kujala Score (Anterior Knee Pain Scale) and Ikeuchi grading system were employed during the 1st, 3rd, 8th, 21st and 32nd weeks postoperatively. Results: In the final stage of physical therapy, complete range of knee joint motion was achieved, the Kujala Scale score totalled 98 points and the thigh circumference of the operated limb increased by 4 cm. The circumferences of the lower extremities differed by 2 cm in the final phase of physical therapy. Conclusions: The employed postoperative protocol effectively influenced the functional state of the patient.

Describing properties of a strongly interacting quantum many-body system poses a serious challenge both for theory and experiment. In this work, we study excitations of one-dimensional repulsive Bose gas for arbitrary interaction strength using a hydrodynamic approach. We use linearization to study particle (type-I) excitations and numerical minimization to study hole (type-II) excitations. We observe a good agreement between our approach and exact solutions of the Lieb-Liniger model for the particle modes and discrepancies for the hole modes. Therefore, the hydrodynamical equations find to be useful for long-wave structures like phonons and of a limited range of applicability for short-wave ones like narrow solitons. We discuss potential further applications of the method.

Abstract Moringa oleifera Lam. is a multipurpose medicinal plant of the family Moringaceae which has been widely utilized as a pharmaceutical remedy to treat a wide range of diseases. In addition, the tree has several applications in human nutrition as well as livestock feeding. M. oleifera is easily multiplied through epigeal germination (recalcitrant) but seed propagated plants are heterogeneous and take longer to reach fruit-bearing age. As an alternative, branch cuttings have been used but their establishment is erratic and often leads to reduced growth of the mother plant. Thus, to produce superior planting materials, in-vitro propagation has become paramount. As a result, several studies using a limited range of cytokinin have been undertaken to multiply M. oleifera through tissue culture. Otherwise, a study was conducted to examine the effect of five different cytokinins on in-vitro regeneration of this tree species. Results showed that nodal explants cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/L 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP) and subsequently rooted on basic MS media was the most optimal treatment. Furthermore, acclimatization of plantlets in sterile soil substrate and perlite (1:3;v/v) under transparent polythene sheet for 7 days resulted in survival rate of 100%. Assessment of genetic fidelity using flow cytometry revealed that surface sterilization alongside cytokinin treatments produced plantlets that were genetically stable regardless of the growth regulator used. Thus, the in-vitro protocol developed in this study can be utilized for in-vitro studies and mass propagation of this imperative plant species.

Abstract Background: Most degenerative rotator cuff tears (RCTs) are associated with a limited range of motion (ROM) of the shoulder joint. Additionally, patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) show a higher frequency of limited ROM. Recently, advanced glycation end products (AGEs) of proteins have been observed to cause tissue fibrosis, primarily through abnormal collagen cross-linking and oxidative stress. In this study, we investigated the effect of AGEs on ROM limitation in the shoulder capsule and its relationship with DM.Methods: 16 patients (8 each in the DM and non-DM groups) who underwent arthroscopic surgery for RCT with limited shoulder ROM were included in this study. AGE-related pathologies in both groups were compared, and the relationship between AGE accumulation and shoulder joint ROM was evaluated. Shoulder capsule tissue was harvested and subjected to histological and in vitro evaluation. Results: The DM group displayed high levels of AGEs and reactive oxygen species (ROS), and reduced cell viability. There was a significant positive correlation between ROS expression, apoptosis, and preoperative hemoglobin A1c. ROS expression, apoptosis, and ROM of the shoulder joint showed a negative correlation. The NADPH oxidase (NOX) expression and collagen III/I ratio were significantly higher in the DM group than in the non-DM group.Conclusions: The DM group showed significant AGE deposition in the shoulder capsule. Additionally, there was a significant association between AGEs and ROM limitation. The oxidative stress induced by AGE deposition, which leads to fibrosis and local inflammation, might contribute to the limited ROM of the shoulder joint.

Q-particles are functional items that are used to form alternative-related constructions. This paper investigates a hitherto understudied use of the Japanese Q-particle ka in which it occurs immediately below the declarative complementizer and imposes constraints on the doxastic state of the attitude holder. I show that this use of ka is licensed only under a limited range of attitude predicates, and once licensed, it encodes the presupposition that  the attitude holder is 'uncertain' regarding the truth value of the proposition denoted by the embedded sentence.

Abstract The article presents the results of a sociological survey of visitors to the Arey Nature Park. Based on the questionnaire conducted in July 2020, the paper demonstrates an analysis of recreational needs and a sociological portrait of a visitor to the Arey Nature Park. The article analyses suggestions of vacationers and contains recommendations based on the identified needs and problems mentioned by the visitors in the organization of operation of the protected area. Almost all park visitors note a strong appeal to the natural scenery of the territory. The sanitary condition of the territory and the limited range of services available are highlighted as significant shortcomings in the operation of the park administration.

Study of Ga2O3 deposition by MOVPE using trimethylgallium and oxygen was performed in a wide temperature range. It was found that for Ga2O3 deposition rate vs temperature dependence is very close to the TMGa pyrolysis in nitrogen. Kinetically-limited range for these processes corresponds to 550-700 C, that is 150 C higher, then for GaN deposition in the same reactor.

During high rates of fire, the bore of the firearm barrel is exposed to high temperatures. This exposure induces structural changes in the barrel material, which is especially significant for the substrate of the galvanic chrome plating. The alloy steel grades used currently for firearm barrels, when exposed to heating above the ferrite stability limits, develop a phase transition with a discrete negative change in the material volume, which results in typical crazing in the bore. This effect is destructive to the galvanic chrome plating, leading to a loss of adhesion, which reduces the ballistic performance of the firearm, especially its muzzle velocity. This can be prevented by manufacturing barrels from steels having a limited range of phase transitions. The primary method for determining the presence of distinct volume changes in steel due to phase transition is dilatometry over a wide temperature range, which includes the interval within which the barrel bore is heated. This paper presents the dilatometry results for four steel grades, which included a steel grade currently used for firearm barrels, and an analysis of the effects of phase transition on the degradation of the barrel bore.


Abstract Using NOAA’s S-band High Power Snow-Level Radar, HPSLR, a technique for estimating the rain drop size distribution (DSD) above the radar is presented. This technique assumes the DSD can be described by a four parameter, generalized Gamma distribution (GGD). Using the radar’s measured average Doppler velocity spectrum and a value (assumed, measured, or estimated) of the vertical air motion, w, an estimate of the GGD is obtained. Four different methods can be used to obtain w. One method that estimates a mean mass-weighted raindrop diameter, Dm, from the measured reflectivity, Z, produces realistic DSDs compared to prior literature examples. These estimated DSDs provide evidence that the radar can retrieve the smaller drop sizes constituting the “drizzle” mode part of the DSD. This estimation technique was applied to 19 h of observations from Hankins, NC. Results support the concept that DSDs can be modeled using GGDs with a limited range of parameters. Further work is needed to validate the described technique for estimating DSDs in more varied precipitation types and to verify the vertical air motion estimates.

This paper proposes a novel architecture for the computation of XY-like functions based on the QH CORDIC (Quadruple-Step-Ahead Hyperbolic Coordinate Rotation Digital Computer) methodology. The proposed architecture converts direct computing of function XY to logarithm, multiplication, and exponent operations. The QH CORDIC methodology is a parallel variant of the traditional CORDIC algorithm. Traditional CORDIC suffers from long latency and large area, while the QH CORDIC has much lower latency. The computation of functions lnx and ex is accomplished with the QH CORDIC. To solve the problem of the limited range of convergence of the QH CORDIC, this paper employs two specific techniques to enlarge the range of convergence for functions lnx and ex, making it possible to deal with high-precision floating-point inputs. Hardware modeling of function XY using the QH CORDIC is plotted in this paper. Under the TSMC 65 nm standard cell library, this paper designs and synthesizes a reference circuit. The ASIC implementation results show that the proposed architecture has 30 more orders of magnitude of maximum relative error and average relative error than the state-of-the-art. On top of that, the proposed architecture is also superior to the state-of-the-art in terms of latency, word length and energy efficiency (power × latency × period /efficient bits).
