Corrosion control on petroleum pipe wells can only be done through the addition of corrosion inhibitors. In this study, the corrosion inhibitors studied were sourced from marine microorganisms, namely the type of microalgae Tetraselmis chuii sp. The aim to be achieved in this study was to determine the mechanism and efficiency of inhibition of the extraction of microalgae biomass in corrosion of carbon steel in an environment of petroleum conditions. To achieve this goal, a potentiodynamic polarization method (Tafel extrapolation) was used and the Electrochemistry Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) method used the galvanostat-potentiostat device (Voltalab 40, PGZ 301). The results obtained from this study indicate that API 5L X65 carbon steel in the petroleum environment is very significantly corroded, caused by acidic media derived from acetic acid and dissolved CO2. The inhibition ability of the Tetraselmis chuii sp. Biomass extract. in line with the increasing extraction concentration reaching optimum at a concentration of 250 ppm with inhibition efficiency reaching 70%. The mechanism of inhibition takes place through the formation of a protective layer adsorbed on the surface of carbon steel. The protective membrane formed is uneven and tends to be porous.

Inhibition studies of N-cetyl-N,N,N-trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and orthophenylenediamine (OPD) have shown that they were effective inhibitors of corrosion of carbon steel in HCl. The inhibitive behaviour of OPD with CTAB on the corrosion of carbon steel in 1 mol/L HCl was studied by gravimetric weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, and electrochemical impedance measurements. Inhibition efficiency (IE) was found to increase with the increase in concentration of CTAB and it was also found that CTAB was effective only when used above a concentration of 100 mmol/L. Furthermore, the addition of 20 mmol/L of OPD to CTAB slightly increased the IE. The adsorption of these compounds on carbon steel in 1 mol/L HCl obeyed Langmuir's adsorption isotherm. These inhibitors reduced the permeation current. The IE was observed as high for 200 mmol/L of CTAB with 20 mmol/L of OPD in all the techniques studied. Scanning electron microscopy clearly showed that the inhibition was due to a polymolecular film formed by the physical adsorption of the inhibitor on the metal surface.Key words: carbon steel, corrosion, inhibitors, impedance, potentiodynamic polarization.

Carbon Steel 1018 is a low carbon steel having a carbon content (C) of 0.14-0.20% (<0.30% C). Low carbon steel is commercially known as mild steel. Corrosion is one way to prevent corrosion caused by the environment. Corrosion inhibitor are taken between the Crude Corrosion Inhibitor and Gas Corrosion inhibitor on Carbon Steel 1018 using the polarization method. Corrosion inhibitors work by making passive layers in the form of thin films or films on the surface of the material used as a barrier between metals and corrosive media. The analysis method used is polarization. Inhibition Efficiency Results obtained for Gas Corrosion Inhibitors (1A) at 10 ppm 96.86%, 20 ppm 59.74%, 30 ppm 74.48%. The Crude Corrosion Inhibitor (2A) results obtained inhibition efficiency for 10 ppm 99.57%, 20 ppm 77.69%, and 30 ppm 12.63%. The optimum value for the Gas Corrosion Inhibitor and Crude Corrosion Inhibitor is at 10 ppm at 96.86% and 99.57%. Keywords: carbon steel, crude corrosion inhibitor, corrosion , gas corrosion inhibitor, inhibitor

The corrosion inhibition characteristics of the synthesized (I, II and III) nonionic surfactants on carbon steel corrosion in 1 M acid chloride have been investigated at 30 oC by potensiodynamic polarization. The obtained results show that compound I has the best efficiency at concentration 0.08 mmol/L while compound III is the best inhibitor at higher concentrations. The surface parameters of each synthesized surfactant were calculated from its surface tension including the critical micelle concentration (CMC), effectiveness of surfactant (π), maximum surface excess (Γmax) and the minimum surface area (Amin).
