In order to study the detection methods of weak transient electromagnetic radiation signals, a detection algorithm integrating generalized cross-correlation and chaotic sequence prediction is proposed in this paper. Based on the dual-antenna test and cross-correlation information estimation method, the detection of aperiodic weak discharge signals under low signal-to-noise ratio is transformed into the estimation of periodic delay parameters, and the noise is reduced at the same time. The feasibility of this method is verified by simulation and experimental analysis. The results show that under the condition of low signal-to-noise ratio, the integrated method can effectively suppress the influence of 10 noise disturbances. It has a high detection probability for weak transient electromagnetic radiation signals, and needs fewer pulse accumulation times, which improves the detection efficiency and is more suitable for long-distance detection of weak electromagnetic radiation sources.

Long-distance high voltage alternating current (AC) submarine cables are widely used to connect offshore wind farms and land power grids. However, the transmission capacity of the submarine cable is limited by the capacitive charging current. This paper analyzes the impacts of reactive power compensation in different positions on the current distribution on long-distance submarine cable transmission lines, and tests the rationality of the existing reactive power compensation schemes based on electrothermal coordination (ETC). Research shows that compensation at the sending end has obvious impacts on current distribution along the cable, and the maximum current occurs at the sending or receiving end. Moreover, the reactive power compensation at sending end will reduce the current at receiving end of the line. On the contrary, it will increase the current at sending end. Compared with the directly buried laying method of the submarine cable in the landing section, the cable trench laying method can increase the cable ampacity of the landing section and reduce the reactive power compensation capacity at the sending end. The ampacity is the current representation of the thermal limits of the cable. ETC exploits the cable ampacity to coordinate current distribution on transmission lines under existing reactive power compensation schemes, thus optimizing the reactive power compensation schemes and avoiding the bottleneck point of cable ampacity.

To investigate the thunderstorm activity according to electromagnetic radiation recorded data, it is necessary to create a local network which will be located near the Klyuchevskaya Sopka, Shiveluch and Tolbachik volcanoes. VLF direction finders, electric field sensors, synchronization system, auxiliary equipment will be installed at observation points. Based on the analysis of waveforms and spectral-temporal characteristics, the locations of radiation sources, their belonging to a certain class will be determined. The parameters, by which volcanic lightning differs from ordinary ones, will be determined. Examples of electromagnetic radiation occurring near the Shiveluch volcano are given. The information can be further used to monitor thunderstorm and volcanic activities.**

Long distance transport in plants takes place in phloem tissue which has characteristic cells, the sieve elements. At maturity these cells have sieve areas in their end walls with specialized perforations. They are associated with companion cells, parenchyma cells, and in some species, with transfer cells. The protoplast of the functioning sieve element contains a high concentration of sugar, and consequently a high hydrostatic pressure, which makes it extremely difficult to fix mature sieve elements for electron microscopical observation without the formation of surge artifacts. Despite many structural studies which have attempted to prevent surge artifacts, several features of mature sieve elements, such as the distribution of P-protein and the nature of the contents of the sieve area pores, remain controversial.

On the occasion of diagnosing a popliteal entrapment syndrome in a 59-year old man with no cardiovascular risk factors, who developed acute ischemic leg pain during long distance running, we give an overview on this entity with emphasis on patients’age. The different types of the popliteal artery compression syndrome are summarized. The diagnostic and therapeutic approaches are discussed. The most important clinical sign of a popliteal entrapment syndrome is the lack of atherosclerotic risk factors in patients with limited walking distance. Not only in young athletes but also in patients more than 50 years old the popliteal entrapment syndrome has to be taken into account.
