In this study, the effect of pyridine as a basic nitrogen compound on HDS activity of DBT and 4,6 DMDBT in treated diesel over modified CoMo/Al2O3 by citric acid has been investigated. It has been obviously found that the modification of CoMo/Al2O3 catalyst by citric acid can inhibit the influence of pyridine on HDS activity of DBT and 4,6 DMDBT. This can be explained that when citric acid was applied in the catalyst preparation, the increasing of total amount of acid sites and the enhancement of HDN activity play an important role in the tolerance of pyridine.

The zirconia supported CoMo catalysts and the commercial sample CoMo/Al2O3 were characterized by XPS measurements and by testing of activity in the HDS of thiophene at 280 °C and 1 MPa of total pressure. The XPS measurements revealed the better reducibility of molybdenum, higher sulphidability of cobalt and the absence of surface sulphur oxidation in the presence of zirconia support. The surface atomic concentration ratios S/Mo were 1.2 and 2.2 for zirconia and alumina supported catalysts, respectively. The activity of the zirconia supported CoMo catalyst normalized to the overal amounts of active metals was lower than that of the commercial CoMo/Al2O3 catalyst.

The transition metals V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Mo, Ru, Rh, Pd, W, Re, Os, Ir and Pt were deposited from aqueous solutions of their salts onto conventional γ-Al2O3 and unconventional TiO2 and ZrO2 supports by vacuum impregnation and characterized in their sulfided form by a model reaction of benzothiophene hydrodesulfurization. It was found that the TiO2 and ZrO2 supports influenced predominantly positively the resulting activity of relatively low-active metals (V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Mo, Ru, W and Os), whereas the highly active metals (Rh, Pd, Ir, Pt and Re) were influenced slightly negatively or not at all by those supports compared with the γ-Al2O3-supported system. A significant effect of the supports on the hydrodesulfurization-activity ranking of the transition-metal sulfides studied was ascertained.

Mercury is one of the detrimental toxicants that can be found in the environment and exists naturally in different forms; inorganic and organic. Human exposure to inorganic mercury, such as mercury chloride, occurs through air pollution, absorption of food or water, and personal care products. This study aimed to investigate the effect of HgCl2 on cell viability, cell cycle, apoptotic pathway, and alters of the transcriptome profiles in human non-small cell lung cancer cells, H1299. Our data show that HgCl2 treatment causes inhibition of cell growth via cell cycle arrest at G0/G1- and S-phase. In addition, HgCl2 induces apoptotic cell death through the caspase-3-independent pathway. Comprehensive transcriptome analysis using RNA-seq indicated that cellular nitrogen compound metabolic process, cellular metabolism, and translation for biological processes-related gene sets were significantly up- and downregulated by HgCl2 treatment. Interestingly, comparative gene expression patterns by RNA-seq indicated that mitochondrial ribosomal proteins were markedly altered by low-dose of HgCl2 treatment. Altogether, these data show that HgCl2 induces apoptotic cell death through the dysfunction of mitochondria.
