According to leading experts, the vast arsenal of radioprotective agents available in the world today does not fully meet modern practical needs, both in the field of radiation protection, and in the prevention and treatment of complications of radiotherapy. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effect of the salt-forming acids type on the radioprotective activity of NOS inhibitor T1023. The chemical part of this study included methods of chemical synthesis, physicochemical and elemental analysis. Pharmacological part – assessment of acute toxicity using V.B. Prozorovsky express method and the study of radioprotective activity using Till and McCulloch method based on the ability of mice hematopoietic cells to form spleen colonies after irradiation. The number of endogenous hematopoietic spleen colonies were assessed on the 8th day after total exposure to gamma-irradiation at a dose of 6 Gy in six independent experiments. As a result of directed chemical synthesis, six new derivatives of T1023 – salts of N-isobutanoyl-S-isopropylisothiourea have been developed, identified and characterized. The results of studying the safety and radioprotective activity of the synthesized compounds showed that changes in the salt-forming acid don’t significantly influence the toxicity: all studied compounds are in the 3rd class of toxicity and hazard. At the same time, it was found that the replacement of the salt-forming acid significantly influenced the severity of the radioprotective effect. For some of these compounds radioprotective efficacy is comparable to or exceeds the efficacy of the initial compound T1023. It is important to note that these new compounds were used in lower, more save doses than T1023. The results suggest promising further development of NOS inhibitors – isothiourea derivatives as radioprotective agents.

Nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA) is a plant lignan obtained from creosote bush, Larrea tridentata and is known to possess antioxidant, anticancer activities and is used in traditional medicine in North America and Mexico. However, its prolonged consumption leads to liver damage and kidney dysfunction. Despite its toxicity and side effects, there is little awareness to forbid its consumption and its use in the treatment of medical ailments has continued over the years. Several reports discuss its therapeutic efficiency and its medical applications have tremendously been on the rise to date. There has been a recent surge of interest in the chemical synthesis of NDGA derivatives for therapeutic applications. NDGA derivatives have been developed as better alternatives to NDGA. Although several NDGA derivatives have been chemically synthesized as evidenced by recent literature, there is a paucity of information on their therapeutic efficacies. This review is to highlight the medicinal applications of NDGA, its toxicity evaluations and discuss the chemical derivatives of NDGA synthesized and studied so far and suggest to continue research interests in the development of NDGA analogs for therapeutic applications. We suggest that NDGA derivatives should be investigated more in terms of chemical synthesis with preferred conformational structures and exploit their biological potentials with future insights to explore in this direction to design and develop structurally modified NDGA derivatives for potential pharmacological properties.

Manganese doped derivatives of polycrystalline Na 1.89 Li 0.10 K 0.01 Ti 3 O 7 bearing 0.01, 0.05 and 1.0 molar % of manganese have been prepared by chemical synthesis. The results of ac electrical conductivity studies in form of log (σT) versus 1000/T plots are reported in the frequency and temperature range of 10 kHz–1 MHz and 350–775 K, respectively. The corresponding plots have been divided into five temperature regions, I, II, III, IV and V. The various conduction mechanisms in different regions have been discussed. The nature of conductivity has been explained by proposing a model about the obtained conductivity σ(ω) which is the sum of three terms arising from three different mechanisms. Moreover, various Na–K–Li–O–Ti–O linkages in Na 2-x-y Li x K y Ti 3 O 7 materials may result special forms of electron clouds. Experimental results of the loss tangent ( tan δ) and relative permittivity (εr) versus temperature at different frequencies have been described. The results of tan δ and εr versus frequency plots at different temperature have also been given for these doped derivatives.
